It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a weekly blog meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where you list the books you read last week and the ones you hope to read this week.
Read Last Week:

The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark (Carol Goodman): Once I got past expecting a regular Carol Goodman book, I enjoyed it.  It was very interesting actually!  Review coming soon.

Reading This Week:

The Awakening by Kate Chopin: I am reading this as part of Sheila at Book Journey's Banned Book Week. My review will be up October 6, and I am also going to have a giveaway of this book as well!

Ghost Story by Jim Butcher:  I have neglected to read this book, and I thought this would be a good time of year to read it.

Embers by Laura Bickle:  I saw this on a blog and knew I had to read it.  Devil's Night in Detroit has always been a problem.  The past few years, an initiative to have Devil's Night Angels has kept the city safer.

As an aside, I can't get into The Teleportation Accident!! I am just not in the right frame of mind or something. I am continuing to try to get through it though.

  1. I have the Kate Chopin stories on my shelf too! I read The Awakening in college, but I haven't read the rest of the stories yet. I hope you enjoy them!

    1. Somehow in all my lit classes in college, we never read Chopin! I am excited to be reading her this week.

  2. Kate Chopin was a misunderstood author and I find that so sad. She had something important to tell us but was swatted down by peer pressure. It's the perfect book for Banned Book week. I'll look forward to your review.

    1. I will really have to do some research - I know her book is on the banned list, but I haven't really read why yet! I want to read about why before I read the book though - I want to be thinking about it as I read it.

  3. Ghost Story does sound like a good book for fall. I haven't read any of Jim Butcher's books yet. I will have to remedy that.

  4. I know nearly nothing about Kate Chopin. I need to do some research! I'm going to be reading Are You There God? It's Me Margaret for Banned Book Week :) I haven't read it since I was a wee lass and I think it will be a great book to share with my youngest daughter.

    1. I am with you there - I never had to read her in college, and I really need to do some reading about her as well this week. :)

We have Are You There God? in the school library I work in. I haven't read it in a long time, but certain parts really stick out in my brain. I will definitely check out your review!

    1. I love Jim Butcher! Make sure you read the other books in the series before Ghost Story though. I read the series so long ago that I am having a hard time remembering what happened before this book, and its throwing me off a little!

  6. I read the Awakening during a college class. I remember enjoying it, a little dry but once you get all the little nuances its a pretty good tale.

    1. When I saw this title on the banned books list, I knew it had to be my pick. I have been meaning to read it for a long time, Banned Book Week just kind of gave me the incentive.

    1. Thanks! I think it will be interesting to read as a Detroit area resident, with hearing about Devil's Night in Detroit every year.

  9. Can't wait to see what other book bloggers are reading for banned books week. I recently read "Americus" by MK Reed. It was a fun graphic novel about a book causing outrage at a small town library. Worth a read.

  13. You seem like an eclectic reader. I read a few of the Jim Butcher books, and I really enjoyed the T.V. adaptation, though it didn't last long.

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
