It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Wyatt and I had a big week last week! The kid had a million zillion appointments, one or more a day for the entire week. But we are done now for a while, yay! Then Saturday was my dad's 70th birthday, and we had a great time relaxing and chatting and eating to celebrate.

Read Last Week:

I managed to get one book done! I loved The Night the Lights Went Out so much I started reading White's backlist. I enjoyed the book I chose immensely! I think I am going to go on a small Karen White spree, as soon as I get back to the library. Lol. It's funny, because I absolutely hated The House on Tradd Street by her. I guess I just needed to read the right book.

A Long Time Gone by Karen White: I loved this book! So good.

Reading This Week:

The Widow's House by Carol Goodman: I love Carol Goodman. She is one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to get started on this one!

Watching:

The Good Witch, The Handmaid's Tale, Edwardian Farm, The Durrells, Twin Peaks starting tonight! I also watched Mommy Dead and Dearest - what a sad tragedy, truly.

How about you all? Whatcha been up to?

A few short reviews: The Break Down by B.A. Paris/The Night the Lights Went Out by Karen White

Title: The Break Down
Author: B.A. Paris
Source: NetGalley

I did not want to stop reading this book for a second. I was hooked from the beginning! Paris is a master at creating a creeptastic atmosphere - in fact, I had to put down Behind Closed Doors, because it freaked me out so much! Her ability to write a psychological thriller that tricks you and leads you down many roads is killer. The title is perfect, by the by. Cass' decision to take the short cut home one early spring night has disastrous results - the night is stormy, the road desolate, and Cass' husband has warned her against taking that route. Where this road ultimately leads is a journey through Cass' forgetfulness, paranoia, fear, and the reader feels every ounce of her anxiety and madness. It was a fabulous read, and if you are a fan of suspense, I highly recommend it!

Title: The Night the Lights Went Out
Author: Karen White
Source: Library

Another unputdownable read! I was glued to the story, just knowing there was something hinky going on between these well written and interesting characters. What is their real story? I had to know!!

Merilee and Sugar are two women of different eras cut from the same cloth - survivors, able to keep take a licking and keep on ticking. But they are also women good at holding onto a secret, especially their own. White did a wonderful job weaving their two stories together, their different perspectives. I loved both Merilee and Sugar, and hope we get another book about them! It was reminiscent to me of Fried Green Tomatoes a little bit, which is one of my favorites. The Night the Lights Went Out is another definite must read for the summer, in my opinion.

Happy Mother's Day! It is a beautiful day here near the D, and we spent quite a bit of it outside. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends, we have had a great one.

Read Last Week:

So my husband did still work a bagillion hours last week, but by Thursday he was done, thank goodness. Yay!  Pretty soon we will all be back to our normal routines.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Ingrid Winter by J.S. Drangshot: This was a pretty entertaining read. Ingrid sure is quirky, with a crazy imagination! I feel inspired now though, to read Astrid Lindgren.

Reading This Week:

I think. I have had this for at least a week and I haven't picked it up yet. And we are going to the library today. So I guess we will see what happens - I may find something else that strikes my fancy!

Watching:

The Durrells, The Handmaid's Tale (soo good!), iZombie, Twin Peaks, The Good Witch.

How about all of you? What is happening with you?

Last week was rough. This week will be too- my poor husband had to work 15 hour days plus weekends, and that will be repeating itself for this week as well. We are all thrown off by the change in routine, schedules, and extra work for both of us, not to mention behind on other things. We must do a good job of working as a team most of the time, since things are all crazy and discombobulated. Wyatt is having a hard time adjusting to this too, not seeing his dad. Fingers crossed this is the last week, for the sanity of the guys in my life (and mine!) I am not finding much time to spend blogging though, or commenting. Hopefully next week I will be back full swing! I had a bunch of posts planned actually, for both of my blogs!

Read Last Week:

I actually read a lot, weirdly. Lots of early morning reading going on.

The Break Down by B.A. Paris

The Night the Lights Went Out by Karen White

O.M.G - both of these books. I loved them! Both were riveting, un-put-downable reads.

Reading this Week:

The Marvelous Misadventures of Ingrid Winter - I have no idea when I got this. I found it on my Kindle and started reading it after I finished the Break Down, since I was freaked out and it was bed time. Lol.

Strange the Dreamer - love this author

Watching:

Twin Peaks, a lot of HGTV since the hubs is working so much. So Lakefront Living, We Bought the Farm, Tiny House Living. I also started the Good Witch, and I love it! Another good one to watch while the hubs is not around. Thanks Stefanie for blogging about it!
