It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
Wyatt and I had a big week last week! The kid had a million zillion appointments, one or more a day for the entire week. But we are done now for a while, yay! Then Saturday was my dad's 70th birthday, and we had a great time relaxing and chatting and eating to celebrate.
Read Last Week:
I managed to get one book done! I loved The Night the Lights Went Out so much I started reading White's backlist. I enjoyed the book I chose immensely! I think I am going to go on a small Karen White spree, as soon as I get back to the library. Lol. It's funny, because I absolutely hated The House on Tradd Street by her. I guess I just needed to read the right book.
A Long Time Gone by Karen White: I loved this book! So good.
Reading This Week:
The Widow's House by Carol Goodman: I love Carol Goodman. She is one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to get started on this one!
Watching:
The Good Witch, The Handmaid's Tale, Edwardian Farm, The Durrells, Twin Peaks starting tonight! I also watched Mommy Dead and Dearest - what a sad tragedy, truly.
How about you all? Whatcha been up to?
I'm glad you all survived that busy week. Glad you got in some good reading. I got to sleep in this morning which was wonderful. I was pooped from yesterday's early jaunt up to the city and from the week where my sleep was sometimes choppy b/c of allergies. Got a second, sewing FO done all in one sitting so I'm happy about that. Heating up leftovers from yesterday's family luncheon.
ReplyDeleteSleeping in sounds wonderful!!! Lol. I am sorry though that you have not had great sleep lately. And awesome job at finishing up a project!
DeleteHappy birthday to your dad! And glad you had a good week. It's always nice to find an author you like when they have lots of backlist books to get to. :)
ReplyDeleteCarol Goodman sounds familiar, did she write the Blythewood books?
I'm watching 12 Monkeys which SyFy just released this weekend (the show, not the movie). and trying to survive the last episodes of The 100 lol.
Have a great week!
Yes, I love that!! It's the bomb. Lol.
DeleteShe did! I think my favorites are Lake of Dead Languages and The Night Villa. I always toyed with being a classics major in college; Goodman has a pretty extensive background career in classics and it shows in her books. I love it!
Oh no! My husband is not caught up on the 100 - it sounds like he will be upset when he finally gets around to them.
I haven't read either of the authors you mention but I know how it is to discover a new author and then want to read their backlist. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love it! I am pretty sure I will be reading her until I need a change. :)
DeleteOoooh, how is The Handmaid's Tale? I loved the book, but we don't have Hulu so I'm dying to find out what someone thinks of it!
ReplyDeleteOmg I love it!! It is really well done, and scary! It is really terrifying honestly, as a woman, to watch. We love it, although like 13 Reasons Why, I have to watch slowly - I can't binge watch it. It is a lot to think about, and so intense.
DeleteYay for a break from doctors' appointments. Sounds like our household.. one or the other of us are always going due to multiple medical issues.
ReplyDeleteI never read a Karen White book, but I do have The House on Tradd St. on my Kindle from a while ago. Oops, you certainly didn't like it, so I'll leave it for an emergency read, I guess. Glad you are choosing other titles by her that you enjoyed, though. I must check her out. I've read only one Carole Goodman book, kind of quirky writing style. Hope this one is good for you.
I keep putting off watching The Handmaid's Tale... maybe I think it will be too depressing? I don't know. I do want to catch it soon. I am looking forward to season 3 of Bloodline later this week. Have you seen it? Have a good week.
And they all seem to come at once! Lol. We are good now though for 3-6 months, yay!!
DeleteLol. I read it so long ago, I can't really remember why I didn't like it! I know I just didn't though, enough that I didn't give it a favorable review here. I love Goodman - her background in Classics, and also, I think she often has some really original ideas.
Oo, it is a tough watch. Definitely not an uplifting show! We usually watch one episode, then follow it up with something funny, like a 30 minute sitcom or something like Grimm. It is so good though!
The Widow's House is on my wishlist. My husband is home. My daughter had two pieces in her school's art show. And we got new cement poured at the bottom of our stoop. Come see what I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteI am loving The Widow's House so far! I love Goodman though. I am looking forward to seeing where it leads.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a pretty good week! Glad the hubby is home, yay! And congrats to your daughter!
Glad your crazy week is over, and it's time to relax! Isn't it funny how we can have such different opinions about different books by the same author?
ReplyDeleteAw, Happy Birthday Dad!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to trying out Widow's House- I've heard quite a bit about it!
