Track Down a Good Book!

Every year my school has a school wide reading challenge, and this year the principal and I chose a detective theme. We are going to call it Track Down a Good Book, and at the end of the year, the students who have read the most books will be rewarded with a movie in the library - detective themed of course. We were thinking of either The Great Mouse Detective, Harriet the Spy, Scooby Doo, or Nancy Drew. To kick the event off, we are dressing as detective type characters from literature - I jumped on the chance to dress as Harriet the Spy, one of my faves as a kid. My first showcase will be headlined The game is afoot! with covers of mystery books that we have in our library.

So, why am I telling you about this? Because I need your help! You are all so widely read and creative, I would love to know your thoughts for showcases for the rest of the year and for fun events and prizes along the way. We are an elementary school, K-5, so I can't reference anything too racy or obscure. Sorry Bogey, you will have to sit this one out.

I can't wait to hear what you come up with!

  1. This is a wonderful idea! I love originality. The Cassidy Jones Series by Elise Stokes. It is really good. It reminds me a great deal of Nancy Drew, only with elements that appeal to a larger crowd in today's world. Nothing too racy at all.

  2. Encyclopedia Brown was one of my favorite children's mystery series.
Of course today's children are probably more familiar with A-Z mysteries.
