It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we have read and what we are reading and see what everyone else is reading.
Read Last Week:
A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway: I am still actually reading this one, but I am almost done. I wish I had lived in Paris with all these writers and artists!
Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris: Another American living in France. I laughed until I cried, so funny.
Reading This Week:
Joyland by Stephen King: The perfect starter to the autumn season.
I am also finishing up A Moveable Feast.

One lonely only. Slowly but surely I will catch up with my reviews.
I also signed up for this years R.I.P. VIII challenge!
Joyland was so good. Classic Stephen King, except much shorter than most of his novels. I hope you like it!
ReplyDeleteI read late into the night last night to finish it - and I loved it!! I agree, classic Stephen King.
DeleteI'm struck by the similarity of plot (magical realism) and even to the author's name for the Wishing Thread. Sounds a lot like Sarah Addison Allen's work, (the Peach Keeper, The Girl Who Chased the Moon, The Sugar Queen...). I wonder if the books are as fun to read also. I now want to go look for this one, see if it's as good as the novels I'm reminded of. Can you compare them to some of Alice Hoffman's best? or if you've read Sarah Addison Allen, are they as good as hers?
ReplyDeleteI've also been having a hard time reading more than one novel a week. Seems to be all I can manage at the time, though they've at least been interesting.
Hope you have a great week - Happy reading
My Reading Week
I am a big fan of magical realism, and I love both Alice Hoffman and Sarah Addison Allen. This book felt more Hoffman like to me; if I were to compare it to her work, I would say Practical Magic or Seventh Heaven. If compared to Sarah Addison Allen, definitely Garden Spells. I would absolutely say that The Wishing Thread is just as good as anything by Allen. :)
DeleteThe end of summer just gets so busy for me! I am trying to cram all sorts of activities in before I go back to work. :( And A Moveable Feast really bogged me down, but I am recommitted to finishing, only a few more chapters to go!
I'll be curious to hear what you think about Joyland. I've heard good and not so good and I don't know whether to read the darn book or not ;) Have fun with RIP!
ReplyDeleteI finished it last night and I loved it!!! There was one little tiny thing that bugged me, but I can overlook it due to how much I enjoyed the rest of the book. It was a quick read, and was like back to his roots King, if that makes sense. :)
DeleteI was thinking of participating in the R.I.P. Challenge. It includes my favorite genres. I'm off to check out your reviews.

I am one book down already! It is a fun challenge, those are my favorite genres as well! The hardest part might be nailing down which books to read. Lol.
