It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Last Sunday, there was snow. This Sunday, it was 73 degrees! Such a wonderful turnaround - we spent the weekend out and about and running around with friends. We are all exhausted but it was a great weekend. We had dinner with friends and babies Friday night, a flea market, sushi and ice cream on Saturday, and Sunday went to Greenfield Village with my brother, sister-in-law and daughter. It was opening weekend and we ran into our good friends as well as more cousins!

Here are my happy guys enjoying the sun.

Read Last Week:

I ended up reading my slow read first! Lol.

The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau: I am reading this with my husband - rather I read it and he is listening to it on audio. I am excited for him to finish because I had mixed feelings about it. It will be fun to discuss!

Once a Rancher by Linda Lael Miller: I am almost done with this book - so far so good!

Reading This Week:

Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler: I didn't get to this last week so I am excited to start it this week.

Lowcountry Boneyard by Susan M. Boyer: I received a free copy of the first book in this series a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. It is the year of the mystery for me I guess! Maybe it is because the first book I read this year was And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie! Speaking of..any recommendations for my second Christie read? I enjoyed the one I read, and I want to read another but I am not sure which one to choose!

Watching:

Everything is kind of wrapping up and getting good! The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Outsiders, Supernatural - not sure what we will do once summer is here; probably hang out outdoors more lol. I think we will try to catch up on the new season of The 100 for sure.

For class this week we watched Indus The Unvoiced Civilization. It is a little more academic and the quality isn't great, but it was pretty fascinating! The people of the Indus region in the Middle East had flush toilets and elaborate water systems about 5000 years ago, which blows my mind. If you are interested I think you can find it on YouTube.

Around the Interwebs;

Just a few links to a few articles I found interesting last week.

Call a Random Swede (I want to do this!)

And this op-ed piece by the manager of the indie bookstore Malaprops in Asheville. It is about the boycott of her state due to the transgender bathroom law that just passed in North Carolina. It was very thought provoking.

  1. Beautiful weekend huh? I think it was even warmer here, high 70's? Sounds like you guys had fun, and yay for greenfield Village! :)

I'm trying to decide next shows too. I started FTWD and it was so-so, and 12 Monkeys starts up I think tomorrow. Looking forward to Zoo and Dark Matter coming back. Hard to keep them all straight lol.

I'll have to go read that op-ed.

    1. It was gorgeous! It sounds like it was warmer your side of the mitten! Went from winter right to summer. Lol.

Yeah, I didn't like FTWD either. :( I think we only watched one or two episodes. It is hard to keep them straight lol! My husband likes Dark Matter too. We haven't watched Zoo though - I get nervous with animal shows, I don't like to see any violence against animals and I don't know what to expect from that one.

    1. The turnaround in weather is crazy but welcome! Lol.

      Thanks!

The Lowcountry books are fun - I am a sucker for a book set in the lowcountry, and these mysteries are well thought out.

  6. I really enjoyed Lowcountry Vineyard, especially the setting. Vinegar Girl is on my list. I like the whole Shakespeare interpretation the Publisher is doing with different authors. Happy Reading!

  7. What a lovely weekend you had. It's great to have friends who have kids around the same time as you. One of my BFF's had her daughter 10 days after mine. Linda Lael Miller is on my list to read this year. Oh, look at the time. GTG and do drop off.

    1. It was the year of the babies last year - between my family, friends, and myself, 6 babies were born last year. Their births spanned from October 2014-September 2015, with Wyatt almost right in the middle. :)

  8. Love your guys pic! Yay for sun and mild weather and outdoor activities! I'm looking at your books with interest since I don't know much about them yet.

The Lowcountry book looks good to me, the mystery lover but also The Happiness of Pursuit. Hubs and I were discussing the octopus story that played on the news here. They are intelligent creatures and he just wants to be free.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts this week!

    1. This is the perfect weather, in my opinion. It doesn't need to get any warmer lol. I am a 70s and breezy kind of girl. :) It was a great weekend and everyone was out in full force - I think winter just wouldn't go away and once it did, no one could stay inside.

The Lowcountry series is fun, and I love the setting! The Happiness of Pursuit was pretty interesting - I loved hearing all the little adventures the author heard about.

That octopus story blew my mind! I didn't know that they were such an intelligent animal - it makes me feel bad for the poor things stuck in aquariums now. Although, it seems like they can escape when they want to. :)

  10. All your books are new to me. Glad you had an enjoyable weekend. It has been up and down, or back and forth here in Wyoming too. Thanks for sharing the op-ed piece, it does make you think. I feel overwhelmed here in this red state. I am a very lonely blue lady. :)

    1. That must be hard, to feel so isolated politically in your own state! I am glad you enjoyed the op-ed piece - I hadn't thought of how the boycott must be affecting even book stores and readers.

I have always wanted to go west - I have heard Wyoming is beautiful!

  11. Love Anne Tyler - her Breathing Lessons is one of my favourite reads.
