The Sunday Post/It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Saturday my husband and I had a date afternoon. We went out with my brother and sister-in-law, without the babies. Billy and I do not do this nearly enough, and we really need to start at least once a week doing something just the two of us. I missed my little partner in crime, but I really had a great time hanging out being just an adult. We took advantage of a program the local college is hosting, all about winter stars in their planetarium. I plan on posting a little bit about this later in the week. But we had a great time in the planetarium and then followed it up with a beer and pizza.

Read Last Week:

The Final Tap by Amanda Flower: I received this from NetGalley - it was an enjoyable little mystery! Review this week.

Reading This Week:

Of Moose and Men: Lost and Found in Alaska: I didn't get to this last week with my classes starting and all - all that other reading! - but I am looking forward to beginning it this week.

The Drowning Girls by Paula Treick DeBoard: I have loved everything DeBoard has written, and so far this book is not disappointing! I am halfway through and don't want to put it down!

Watching:

Bones, The Shannara Chronicles and we just added the Shadowhunters television show to the list. The Shannara Chronicles is based on a series by Terry Brooks, while the Shadowhunters is based on Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. My husband and I are debating which series is better - both are slightly cheesily done, but I prefer Shadowhunters while he likes the Shannara series better. Despite the production quality, they are both pretty entertaining. We are also deciding if we want to watch To Make a Murderer. Everyone is talking about it, and my brother and sis-in-law said it is worth watching. So we might begin that this week too.

  1. Glad you had a nice date night out. That program sounds really cool!

I watched the first episode of Shadowhunters. It is okay but I don't get cable so I don't think I'll watch the rest till it is on Netflix (hopefully later this year). I have heard that Shannara is good but I never read the books. I've also been hearing about How to Make a Murderer. My sister said she tried watching it but kept falling asleep. Of course the poor thing is overworked at the moment so that could be why!

Of Moose and Men looks kind of fun. The cover is certainly eye catching!

Yes, neither Shadowhunters nor Shannara are teh best but they are entertaining enough to watch. At least so far. Lol. Aw your poor sister!! I am not sure I can watch it. Sometimes true crime scares me too much!

  2. Good for you on having an adult, double date. My husband and I hardly do that ourselves and honestly, we always talk about our daughters.

    1. We talked about other things for a while, but the conversation inevitably turned to the babies. Lol. Getting out more is something we really need to do more! I miss my husband. Lol.

  3. Dates are so rare between my husband and I. Maybe once every three to six months, which is really pathetic. I am glad you and your husband got to enjoy some time away! The Drowning Girls looks really good! I will have to look for that one. I hadn't realized The Shadowhunters had started. That's one I would like to check out--although it probably won't be until it is on streaming. I hope you have a great week!

    1. I know right? The same here. And it is not like we lack babysitters - we have grandparents falling over themselves trying to watch the boy. Lol. Most of the time we like our family time, but it was good to be just us again too for a short time.

The Drowning Girls was excellent!! I finished it last night and loved it!

The Shadowhunters series is better than the movie, in my opinion. I didn't much care for that version. I don't really think it is bad at all but the hubs isn't in to it. That could just be him though. Lol.

  4. Beer, pizza and adult time sounds good, you have to have that sometimes. I watched the first Shannara episode and thought it was OK- some good stuff, some bad. It might have potential but I didn't watch this last episode so not sure if it's getting better or not.

Looking forward to your planetarium post, that sounds fun!

    1. It was definitely much needed. I have been really housebound lately, with the weather and the baby so it was also nice to just get out.

I agree about Shannara. I don't think it is the greatest but I don't mind some of it. I like the druid guy. We just watched the third episode and it seemed to pick up a little bit for me. The next episode will really determine everything, I think. It is at a critical point in the story. I think. Lol.

  5. Great idea for a date a week or so. Your reading while unfamiliar to me looks very enticing.

  6. All the books you've shared this week are new to me books, but The Drowning Girls sounds really interesting. I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads.

  7. It is tough when they are little, but they grow up so fast; then they leave you to go out!

  8. Congrats on having a date night. I know how hard it can be to work that out. Do let us know if Making a Murderer is worth watching. I've been curious!

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
