A few short reviews: The Break Down by B.A. Paris/The Night the Lights Went Out by Karen White

Title: The Break Down
Author: B.A. Paris

I did not want to stop reading this book for a second. I was hooked from the beginning! Paris is a master at creating a creeptastic atmosphere - in fact, I had to put down Behind Closed Doors, because it freaked me out so much! Her ability to write a psychological thriller that tricks you and leads you down many roads is killer. The title is perfect, by the by. Cass' decision to take the short cut home one early spring night has disastrous results - the night is stormy, the road desolate, and Cass' husband has warned her against taking that route. Where this road ultimately leads is a journey through Cass' forgetfulness, paranoia, fear, and the reader feels every ounce of her anxiety and madness. It was a fabulous read, and if you are a fan of suspense, I highly recommend it!

Another unputdownable read! I was glued to the story, just knowing there was something hinky going on between these well written and interesting characters. What is their real story? I had to know!!

Merilee and Sugar are two women of different eras cut from the same cloth - survivors, able to keep take a licking and keep on ticking. But they are also women good at holding onto a secret, especially their own. White did a wonderful job weaving their two stories together, their different perspectives. I loved both Merilee and Sugar, and hope we get another book about them! It was reminiscent to me of Fried Green Tomatoes a little bit, which is one of my favorites. The Night the Lights Went Out is another definite must read for the summer, in my opinion.

  2. Ooh The Break Down does sound good. I've been reading a lot of suspense/ psychological thrillers lately, just in the mood for them I guess. Adding this one...
