Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
Last week flew by! We had a pretty good week, on the home front here. Today we are throwing a party for my mom's birthday - she is turning 70 this week! I spent much of last week gathering things together and ironing out last minute details with my sister-in-law and aunt. It's a small gathering but I think it will be really special. It's also why I am up early on a Sunday, typing up this post! I know I will be pretty busy the rest of the day, and wanted to get this finished while I could.
Read Last Week:
We Stood Upon Stars by Roger W. Thompson: I read this book before bed every night, a chapter here, a chapter there. It was a nice way to end the day. This book also had cool hand drawn maps by the author from his favorite parks, with little details thrown in, tips and info about coffee houses and people and whatnot. I am a map nerd so I am going to go back and really peruse those soon. Review soon.
The Ridge by John Rector: This was a very fast read for me. It was pretty good, but felt a little underdone when it came to the characters, although, that might have been intentional, honestly, as the MC is isolated from her community, and therefore doesn't really know the other characters. It was good but I wouldn't say I completely loved it.
Still Reading:
Still reading about my rabbit friends on the Down.
Reading this Week:
Posted Last Week:
Watching:
Riverdale, The Path, Bletchley Circle, 13 Reasons Why, iZombie (yay!). We also found the show Powerless and we are in love with it! Just the right amount of cheeseball humor and it is so fun. Plus, Abed from Community is in it!
So what about all of you? What have you all been up to this week?
Your mum's partay planning sounds exciting. I can't wait to read about it. I read Watership Down in high school. I had an older teacher who was strict and very proper. We had to write a paper about this book, stating what kind of government structure they had. I can't remember what I had guessed but it was wrong. Do you know?
ReplyDeleteWe had a really good time at the party! :) I always feel that Watership Down represents different forms of government, actually. Hazel's group is a democracy, with more rabbits having a voice, while the big baddie group, Efrafa, is totalitarian. Then there is the warren with the strange rabbits, and the snares, and they could be socialists perhaps, but that might be a long shot. :)
DeleteThanks; that was so informative.
DeleteI read great reviews of Karen White's latest book. Hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHappy birthday to your mom! Hope it's a great day. And We Stood Upon stars looks great. I love maps and travel stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching Riverdale too (no episode last week- boo) and just finished binging 13 Reasons Why. Wow, quite the show.
Thanks! It was a great day spent with family! :) We Stood Upon Stars was pretty cool ~ it had some definite moments that stood out, and kind of made me think! :)
DeleteI had to take a tiny step away from 13 Reasons - it was so intense, and it was starting to bother me! It is excellent though, and the young actors and actresses are amazing. And Hannah's mom, she kills me. :(
I missed Riverdale too! :(
I just requested Stood Upon Stars...it's not my usual genre, but the description pulled me in. Hoping it's not too heavy on the religion, and a little more spiritual!
ReplyDeleteIt's not too bad that way! Lol. I actually requested it for review before I saw that it was religious, I don't normally read it too much either. In my opinion, I think it was definitely more spiritual than straight up religious. :) I hope you like it! :)
DeleteHappy birthday to your mother. It was a busy week of reading, Girl Scouts, the Mandarin Showcase, and boxing up books. Come see what I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSounds like it was a busy week but productive!
