Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post!
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date!
I feel like I putzed a lot last week. I did a little of this, a little of that. I have been trying to go through all of our stuff, and decide what we can donate or sell or just plain get rid in an attempt to control the chaos that is our home. We have lived here long enough that our possessions have run amok! And add a toddler ~ yikes! Lol. I am currently in high organization mode ~ if you follow me on Pinterest you can see all the stuff that I've pinned but maybe won't do! Lol. Anyway, it's been fun putzing.
Read Last Week:
Forever a Hero by Linda Lael Miller: I hate to say this, but while I started off enjoying this book, it just ended up boring me and I had to force myself to finish it.
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking: This book was a great resource for anyone just starting to learn about the whole hygge lifestyle, like me. Plus, I want to work at the Happiness Research Institute. How fun does that sound!
Reading this Week:
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson: Our book club pick for the month. Shirley Jackson rocks. (I wasn't trying to be ironic, but there you have it)
We Stood Upon Stars by Roger W. Thompson: From Blogging for Books. So far, I really like it, and I read a chapter every night. It is nice way to end the night.
Bought for my Kindle under $2.00/free:
The Practice House by Laura McNeal - a free Kindle book
Falling Free by Shannan Martin - I used to read her blog, Flower Patch Farm Girl or something like that. I loved it, so I am interested to see what her book has to say.
Watching:
We finished up Bones ~ the final series episode was last week, and I was teary! We also are watching Big Little Lies (so good~ I really need to read the book, eh), Riverdale (although on hiatus?), Victoria, Supernatural
How about you all? What's going on with you?
Sounds like you're having a good old spring clear out - it is crazy how easily things accumulate when you add a child into the mix!
ReplyDeleteI've been umming and ahhing over the Hygge book, thinking it a novelty book of sorts. I'm so intrigued by it and the concept of hygge though.
I hope you have a great week - enjoy your books!
I am going crazy with the clutter! Lol. It's funny, it never bothered me before. Now I'm like, I want to own nothing! Lol.
DeleteIt kind of is a novelty book, honestly. It is along the same line of mindfulness and even the French Women books a little - to take care of yourself, enjoy yourself, moments, nature, food. Not quite that simplistic, I guess. I enjoy it though, it does make me look at things differently, especially now that I need to remember myself sometimes! :)
Nice array of books for the week. You on on organizing which reminds me I need to look at a flyer to see if I had to have contacted the company for a pick up. My husband is putting together our new coffee table, making Jellybean help him. I just made cucumber kimchi which is fermenting on our counter right now in two jars. I plan to finish catching up with blogs and then work on a post for today.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of just taking everything I don't want outside during our city-wide garage sale and telling people just to give me what they want to for it. Then just donating what is left. Lol. I am feeling highly motivated right now.
DeleteFun!! I saw your table on Instagram, it is very cool! I would love to see photos of your Hawaiian decorated room. And cucumber kimchi sounds amazing, and my husband would be so happy if I learned to make that. Lol. Sounds like a very nice day.
You can make the cucumber kimchi; it's really easy. I'll try to talk about it tomorrow. I think that's a good idea to sell what you can and then donate the rest. Our rooms aren't totally decorated, minimal I'm afraid. When I tidy up around here because I do need to clean before the 21st, I'll send you via email some pictures. But expect to be underwhelmed.
DeleteIt was so nice to get back to Riverdale this week! I can't help it, I am liking that show. And Big Little Lies too- the finale tonight! I'm pretty excited. And yes the book is excellent. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I want to get The Little Book of Hygge.
It was! I am glad you commented that it was back on, we almost missed it, and it was a really good one! We didn't watch the finale of BLL yet - but I can't wait! I will have to read the book.
DeleteI really enjoy the Hygge stuff. I am all about coziness and a social life and nature, and that kind of hits on all of it. :)
My car is full of new Bankers boxes. Tomorrow I'll begin weeding through and boxing up our home library for a similar decluttering. Ours is motivated by hoping for a summer move.
ReplyDeleteIt's Monday, What Are you reading?
I need to get to the office/library - that is my big project looming right now! I need some boxes, and I think I might actually downsize how many books I own. :( I never thought I would say that!
DeleteI keep hearing about the Hygge lifestyle, but I have no clue what it is! I've been slowly watching Big Little Lies (I can't watch it when my kids are home and the hubs has no interest in it). I like it, but it is *much* darker than the book!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to put a finger on it - it is kind of about being cozy, friends, enjoying the moment and nature. It seems it is more of a feeling than a movement. A mindfulness? I am enjoying learning about it and trying to incorporate it into my life. Right now all that has come down to is burning a few candles here and there, but sometimes, just doing that is enough to set an ambiance. :)
DeleteOh wow really! Now I really need to read the book!
I'm in organization mode too. I shouldn't be surprised at how much stuff I've accumulated in 17 years in this house but I am. I keep discovering new things I forgot I had stuffed in closets and drawers. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I can just imagine! I keep finding stuff I have squirreled away. Hopefully it is all going well! :)
DeleteThe Hygge book looks so interesting! As does We've Always Lived in the Castle. I think the fact that the Danish have a Happiness Research Institute means they have their priorities in the right place!
ReplyDeleteWe've Always Lived in the Castle was so good!!! Little man had a long nap today and I was able to read the whole thing. It was excellent and I will be adding more Shirley Jackson to my reading list ASAP.
DeleteAnd I agree!
I just started Hygge last night, and had the same thought about wanting to work at the Happiness Institute! Our book club read Castle in October, and we all absolutely loved it. Hope you do as well!
ReplyDeleteLol! How can anyone not! Maybe grumps. Lol.
DeleteI finished Castle this afternoon - my son gifted me with a long nap. I loved it! I can't wait to read more Shirley Jackson.
I like the cover on The Practice House. Looks like a good book too.
ReplyDeleteENJOY your books and reading week.

My It's Monday, What Are You Reading
I am hoping to get around to it pretty soon - I like the cover too. Something about her eyes.
DeleteThanks Elizabeth!
I could do with a bit of decluttering myself. My garage is fit to burst.
ReplyDeleteI don't even want to think about our garage...lol. :)
DeleteI enjoyed the Bones finale too.
ReplyDeleteI thought they did a nice job wrapping everyone's story lines up, and reminding us of characters no longer on the show, like Sweets and Nigel. :(
DeleteI seriously need to declutter too. Good luck! The Little Book of Hygge is very popular at my library though not as popular as Marie Kondo's decluttering books. I will have to pick it up sometime. I've heard that Norwegian people are now considered the happiest but the Danes come in second!
ReplyDeleteI hope you give the book version of Big Little Lies a try sometime. It is different from the show. One of my book group members said the show didn't do the book justice but the other people I've talked to thought it was pretty good with the exception of Madeline's character. I only watched the first episode but plan to watch the rest eventually.
Have a great week!
I read the previous book to Forever a Hero and same as you. I mean, it was an okay novel but it was mostly boring.
ReplyDeleteSheesh kids come with a lot of stuff don't they! I'm travelling with my three year old at the moment and I'm just amazed at everything we have accumulated ALREADY! I don't know how we will get home!
ReplyDeleteI want to get back to watching Bones! I stopped a few seasons ago and I'm not sure why. I think I ran out of time with a baby and now she's three already!
Thanks for stopping by my blog last week and sorry it's taken so long to catch up!
