It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

It's been a while since I have really blogged, but summer has overtaken this family! Today we took Wyatt to his first big sporting event, a baseball game. We had a great time, even though we didn't make it all the way to the end. He's just little, with many more games in his future. We all had such a great time. We have also been wrapped up in watching the Tour de France - we are big fans.

Read Last Week:

The drought has been broken! Rita from View from my Books suggested switching it up, and that is what did the trick. I read two graphic novels and am mostly through a nonfiction book. Woot!

I am in love with these Lucy Knisley graphic novels. I have the rest of her books on hold at the library, I can't wait for them to come in!

Meadowland is a completely different read altogether. I am loving it just as much however, as I did the graphic novels. I am not quite done with it, but I will be soon.

Reading This Week:

Speaking of holds..

A Court of Mist and Fury finally came in!!! Yay!

Watching:

The Tour de France, Penny Dreadful, Outlander, Wayward Pines (which has gotten so much better!!), Alone

Posted:

I am looking forward to returning to blogging and visiting other blogs this week! I need some downtime! Lol.

  1. I'm glad that you broke your non-reading drought! Sometimes a little change-up makes all the difference :) I'm not really into graphic novels, but those look cute.

I also have a Court of Mist and Fury, but just have to wrap my mind around reading it now. I've been reading what I call "quieter" books this week-- Faithful by Alice Hoffman and now reading The Goodbye Quilt by Susan Wiggs-- introspective reads.

I'm also a fan of Wayward Pines and am all caught up so far. Have a great week.

    1. It really did the trick! The graphic novels were quick reads, like an hour each, but they were really good. I don't read many graphic novels, and I was impressed by these two, especially Displacement. It actually made me cry!

I understand the need for "quiet" books too - and I call them that as well! Meadowland is like that, a quiet retreat. I love it.

Oooo isn't it getting so good!!!! I can't wait to see what happens next!

  2. Sorting events can be hard with kids. Last summer, we took our kids (then 4 and 6) to a Thorns game (women's soccer)--we made it through the game, but that was mostly because of sheer grit on the part of my husband and I. We're hoping to hit a couple of baseball games his summer, but we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

    1. It was a bit tricky!!! I am a bit of an anxious first time mother too, and Wyatt has some special needs so I was practically crazed at first. The beer I had helped with the nerves though. I don't usually drink but I thought I'm at the ballpark, let's do this. I am glad I did! We had a blast. :)

  3. Thanks for the post - I picked it up from The Book Date on the IMWAYR linky.

Yay for breaking the reading drought. I also did a short graphic novel this week - a very lighthearted look at Adulthood by Sarah Scribbles and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A Court of Mist and Fury continues to be my favourite 2016 book and SJ Maas is firmly rooted as one of my all time favourite YA authors. I hope you love it.

Have a look at my weekly roundup on my post #IMWAYR

    1. The graphic novel you read sounds fabulous! I will have to add it to my list.

Oh wow now I really can't wait to dig in to CoMF. I really need to clean my house though bleh! So I am super cleaning so I can have some time to read later tonight/tomorrow. Can't wait to get started!!!

  4. I'm glad to see you liked the Lucy Knisely travel books! I've glanced at them off and on but never committed to adding them to my TBR. I'm not sure why... I love travel and art!, and the covers are so pretty! I'm glad they helped you out of your reading slump... those are the WORST! The cover of "Meadowland" is totally intriguing and I'm off to look it up on Goodreads. I'm trying to read more non-fiction (ideally, I'd like to get to one per month) and I'm always looking for recommendations!

I have all of season 2 of "Outlander" recorded on the DVR and I'm so excited to watch it -- but I really want to read "Dragonfly in Amber" first. If I don't read it before watching the show, I have a feeling I'll never get to it!

    1. P.S. I just looked up "Meadowland" and I'm about to order it from Book Depository!

    2. I am so glad you are going to read it! I really love it - it is very calm and quiet, and full of beautifully worded sentiments and moments in nature. It makes me want to move somewhere that I can have a meadow as my yard! I don't read a lot of nonfiction either, and always try to read more of it. I think I have read more this year than any other. I usually end up reading memoir type books, travel, nature, etc. :)

Lol! I could see that!! That is my least favorite book in the series - it's an important one though darn it!

  5. Those graphic novels look good. I am glad the reading drought is over!

I hope you enjoy A Court of Mist and Fury. I really liked it but there were definitely some who were disappointed with it.

I am so behind on watching Outlander. I'll get to it eventually. I also need to catch up on this most recent season of Game of Thrones. I think I have 4 or 5 episodes left to watch.

    1. They were surprisingly to me very well done. I didn't know that the author based them on her own life experiences. I actually teared up during Displacement. :(

I am super excited to read it!! I can't wait to read more about Rhysand - I love him! Lol.

Game of Thrones...catch up! That is all I can say. LOL. :)

  6. I loved A Court of Mist and Fury and hope you do too. I have been alternating between YA and adult books to keep myself fresh this summer. It's working so far. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. That is a good idea!!! I need to get some YA reading ideas. The last one I read hurt my brain. The Love that Split the World. Have you read it?

I just realized I am really slacking in the review department lately too! Eek!

  7. I've never read graphic novels, but changing up my genre usually does the trick for me, too. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I don't read them very often, but this was the perfect time. I needed something quick and fun to get me over the slump! These were really well done too; the author/illustrator bases them off of her own life experiences. Displacement even made me cry. :(

    1. Lol it was a bit of training for me too!! I guess gone are the easy days of just going with just my phone and debit card. We had to figure out all the logistics of bringing a toddler to a game - what a difference eh? Lol.

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
