Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post!
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
It was a crazy week last week in our household. On Wednesday, my mom, Wyatt and I met my sister-in-law, niece, and my SIL's mom at the street art fair in our city. It was such a hot and humid day, and Wyatt began to flag early. I was concerned about him and decided we had to leave. I am glad we did, because he actually was fine once I got him somewhere cool, but my mother practically collapsed from heat exhaustion. She is doing fine now, but she had me very worried! We will not be venturing out into such a hot day again - too much for my heart to take between my mom and son! In better news, we had book club woohoo!! None of us were able to read the book. I know that sounds crazy, but there was only one copy available in the library system and to be honest, I checked it out but it was just too much for me to handle, theme wise. It was intense and violent, and with the world the way it is right now, I couldn't do it. We still had fun hanging out - it was a beautiful night, and we sat on my friend's deck enjoying wine in the cool night breeze, chatting away. Reality intruded quickly though, when we realized we could while away the time too easily, and we all had babies to get home too. It was a nice time, and a nice few hours out.
My goal this week on the blog is to try to catch up on reviews! It is supposed to be another hot week here in the mitten. In fact one weather report I saw described the heat as torrid. Yuck.
Read Last Week:
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: I had heard there are conflicting opinions on this book, and after reading it, I could see why. However, I am firmly in the camp of LOVING this book!!! It is over 600 pages and I was sad when it ended. Now I have to wait for the next one. Noooo!
Reading This Week:
Feast or famine, I think I said in another post- and all of my library holds are in now. Lol. I need to decide what I am reading. I have so many good choices!!! I think I am going to start with these two.
Watching:
The Tour de France - I love this race! My husband and I watch most of it seperately during the day, and save the last 30 km to watch with each other at night. It is a fun way to watch, and we get to watch the exciting stuff together. Is anyone else watching? What did you think of the run Froome did? So crazy!
We are also watching Alone, Wayward Pines, Penny Dreadful, Outlander, although we are falling behind on Alone and Pines, due to the Tour.
How about you all? What's going on in your corner of the world?
Oh, yes, hot days are not the time to go walking! Too bad, though, since the street art fair sounded like fun.
ReplyDeleteThe Weekenders is a book on my list...and I'm curious about The Unexpected Everything.
Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Yes, it was not a good idea! I should have followed my instincts - the minute I got out of the car I thought it was going to be a mistake. And it definitely was!
DeleteHey I like the new header. Looks nice! I hear you on the heat- from what I saw late next week is going to be HOT! Ugh here come the dog days of summer... :)
ReplyDeleteI sadly did not see anything of the Tour. And Wayward Pines has been getting better- is it just me? Although I hate Jason. I've seen some reviewers not like Theo but I'm okay with him. Arlene they try to make weird but she's not as fun weird as last time? And now Margaret is loose- I don't know where they're going but I'm actually liking this series.
Thanks! It is not quite finished yet, but I liked it enough to use it until I finish it. :) This heat is oppressive. I am an autumn person. I like summer but not when it is this hot. I like to actually go outside without melting to the pavement. Lol.
DeleteThe tour still has another two weeks or so if you still want to watch it. Lol. It blows my mind that these men race for an entire month!
Wayward Pines has definitely been getting better!!! We are a little behind, but the last episode we watched, holy crap! The moment I had been waiting for. Lol. Maybe we are caught up? Theo has grown on me. I think his character is used to be a take charge doctor- now he is a take charge guy in a world run by children. At first, I wasn't thrilled with him, I missed Ethan, but Theo is a good replacement. Arlene - I agree, not as fun weird. More - crazy weird. Not in a good way. I am getting excited about this series again, minus the weird kid pregnancy stuff. That really bothers me.
We've been having hot temps, so we spent most of the weekend in San Diego with our company which is always cooler and breezier than our town, since it is closer to the shore and not blocked by mountains.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been reading much on my "semi-hiatus", which ends next weekend when granddaughter goes home. I don't watch The Tour, hardly watched any tv, but finished up Wayward Pines and am in season two of The Americans. My SIL just suggested a whole laundry list of British shows she watches on Netflix, so I have to start any of them when I'm less busy. Both of them recommended The Fall, based in Belfast, and starring the former star of X-Files Gillian Anderson. Maybe I'll watch that when granddaughter goes home, as it has violence.
Be careful in that heat-- it'll sneak up on you! I have A Court of Mist and Fury on my kindle to read coming up in August. I really enjoyed the first in that series.
By the way, what was the title of the book club choice that no one read? Just nosy...
San Diego is the best. I think it is supposed to have the most temperate climate in the US? I could have just made that up. Lol.
DeleteOk, I must be behind in Wayward Pines. Lol. I was wondering!Hmm, I am interested in these British shows!
Oh my gosh the heat really did sneak up on us! I think Wyatt was ok since I had him drink water while we were walking, but my mom didn't have any, I don't think. Those moms. Lol.
I am so curious as to what you will think of Mist and Fury!!! I loved it!! But I can see how people have a preference.
The book we read was Homeboy by Seth Morgan. It was just a little too much for me. :)
Oh boy, heat exhaustion? I'm so sorry. Glad everyone was okay in the end. I will have to read that second installment soon so I don't forget the original plot; the first was terrific. I like the looks of these lighthearted books you have up next.
ReplyDeleteI loved this second book, more than the first!! I am excited to hear what you think, people are kind of divided over it. :) I think with our "torrid" heat wave, I will need some light reading. It seems we will be housebound for a while, all holed up in the air conditioning. :)
DeleteI loved A Court of Mist and Fury too. I'm not certain that it belongs in my grade 6 - 12 media center though. It is quite mature in many ways. We haven't had any overwhelming heat here which is fine with me. Come see my reading week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteKathy, how did I miss your comment! Or any of the comments after!
DeleteI loved this book, but I totally agree with you - it certainly does not belong in a 6-12 media center. Yikes! I hope you stayed heat free this week!
I've had plenty of book club meetings where few people had read the book because of the library! I actually make it a practice to buy the books now because of that (even though the last thing I need in my house is more books!).
ReplyDeleteLol!!! I used to do that too! I had to stop, just too many books, too little space. :( I am actually about to make a huge change, and give away 1/2 of my books. :( .
DeleteThe heat is definitely crazy. We visited D.C. this weekend and I was glad to spend a few hours in one of the Smithsonian museums and take advantage of the air conditioning!
ReplyDeleteWhether you read the book or not, your book club sounds lovely. I wish I had one by me!
Oh man, D.C. is awesome!!! But yes, very hot in summer! I am glad you were able to find the cool spots to hang out in!
DeleteThanks! I love my book club friends! I actually started my book club - it really consists of my friends, and a few years ago I was like, we all like reading, lets have a book club! It is really a lot of fun, and gives us an excuse to hang out at least once a month.
I hate the hot and it's been humid here too.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed The Weekenders. Hope you have a great week!
Ugh I hate it too!! This week was awful. :( I am hoping for a reprieve from this weather soon!
