It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, that is guaranteed to add to your reading list.
I had a great weekend. My husband and I spent Saturday at Detroit's Farmers Market, and then trundled father south for Hawkfest. I saw so many birds of prey! I love birds, although I can see why some people don't, with their ancient eyes that seem to peer through you. I will probably post a detailed post about our day later, but here are two pics I took.
Read Last Week:
Thornyhold by Mary Stewart: I read this as part of Mary Stewart Reading Week, hosted by Gudrun's Tights. I had intended to read another Stewart, but it didn't pan out.
Shattered Silk by Barbara Michaels: Reading Mary Stewart always makes me want to read Barbara Michaels, another comfort author of mine. I love the Georgetown series! Review soon.
Reading This Week:
I am going to be working on my R.I.P. Challenge as well as participating in Book Journey's Banned Books Week!
Visions by Kelley Armstrong: I think I was a little so-so with the first book, but wanted to give it more of a chance by reading the second book. I love the cover!
The Witch with No Name by Kim Harrison: This book makes me sad - the last book in the Hollows series! Nooooo!!! I am going to the author book signing on Devil's Night with my friend Mary, it will be bittersweet.
Blubber by Judy Blume: My banned book. I will be posting my review on Thursday!
Watching:
I saw this on Rita H's blog, My Home of Books and thought it was a fun idea! My husband and I have been watching Firefly (love it!), Outlander (love it more!), and The Witches of East End. I can't wait for the first week of October, when Gilmore Girls is being released on Netflix! I am such a GG fan! We are also looking forward to the return of Grimm and Sleepy Hollow.

I adore Barbara Michaels! Have I told you this before? I actually just finished my 2nd book by Mary Stewart this year as well and am now a firm fan of hers too! Sounds like you had a great week of reading with those two authors :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to meet another Barbara Michaels fan!! The two of them (Stewart and Michaels) are definitely big go-to comfort reads for me. I like mine with an edge of mystery I guess! Lol.
DeleteHawkfest sounds awesome, never heard of that before. Looking forward to your post about it...
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda looking forward to fall TV too and all the shows coming back. Looking forward to Agent carter a little bit...
Hawkfest was cool! There were a lot of different activities. :)
DeleteI love Farmers Markets and Hawkfest sounds pretty amazing - great photos! I was disappointed to miss Mary Stewart week this year :-(
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteIt is so hard to do everything, with all the challenges out there. :)
Wonderful photos! I like the idea of Banned Books week. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It should be an interesting week, reading about why certain books were banned.
DeleteShattered Silk and Visions both sound very intriguing! I hope you enjoy your reads this week.
ReplyDeleteIt's Monday! What Are You Reading?
Thanks!
DeleteOh my goodness-- I didn't know Elizabeth Peters was also Barbara Michaels. I've heard of Ms. Peters' books and have had them recommended to me, but never picked one up, but I used to read Barbara Michaels back in the day! Didn't read the one you did though, so I'm interested.
ReplyDeleteYou have a very nice hubby to enjoy a weekend Farmers Market and Hawkfest with you and you mention he goes to movies you like also. Lucky you! I would enjoy those activities also.
Hope I get to read a Banned Book, but have so much on my plate with 3 challenges I'm doing right now. I did it last year though. Judy Blume is a fun author so enjoy that. Did you read and enjoy the whole Kim Harrison series? I see it gets so much love but I'm hesitant because I'm afraid it will be over the top with PN and I won't enjoy the plot. If you read all the books though, you clearly enjoyed the heck out of it, and Kimba loved it also. I'll look for the first book and try it out and see what I think; I'm just being honest here :)
Thanks for the shout-out! My eldest loves Firely and Joss Whedon (made Buffy also) and I loved Gilmore Girls so thanks for the tip re: Netflix.
I have never read the Elizabeth Peters books! Is that weird? Lol. I always feel like it is, since I love the Barbara Michaels books so much.
DeleteYeah, he is a good guy. :)
I did read and love the Kim Harrison series. I think those books are so fun! I am a huge fan of supernatural urban fiction (and bad at genres!) though. Plus the author lives just over an hour away from me, so she is local. I am not sure what PN is! :(
Sure thing! I love all things Joss Whedon as well! And Gilmore Girls, so excited!!!
I thought I'd read everything by Mary Stewart but that one is new to me. I also really like Barbara Michaels though I haven't read her for years. I liked Visions but am waiting for the paperback of the Kim Harrison book. I still have the last book in that series on my TBR mountain. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI really like this Mary Stewart! Nine Coaches Waiting is my favorite, and this one is a bit slower, but I liked that about it. Lol. Barbara Michaels is a go-to comfort read for me. I can always pick one of her books up and relax. :) I checked the Kim Harrison out from the library, since I won't get my copy until the author signing, and I knew there would be people there with spoilers! Lol.
DeleteI haven't heard of Barbara Michaels but I loved Mary Stewart books years and years ago and want to read one of hers for a couple of challenges I still need to finish this year.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Michaels is similar to Stewart, I think. I really enjoy her and encourage you to read her, on a day when you just want to lay around, maybe when it is rainy. :) Lol.
DeleteBeautiful pictures! What a nice day!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeletePretty pictures! I've been wanting to read the Hollows series.
ReplyDeleteIt's Monday! at Brooke Blogs
Thanks! I love the Hollows, it's really good!
DeleteI seriously am considering getting Netflix just because of Gilmore Girls. I love that show! Glad you had a fun weekend out and about, along with reading some good books. I want to live in the cover of Thornyhold. :)
ReplyDeleteI know right! I was actually really frustrated the other day because I wanted to watch it, and the only way to do that is to buy it. I was very happy a few days later when I read it is coming to Netflix!
DeleteAnd yes! Thornyhold! I could live there too. :)
It is killing me not to be watching Outlander, but do no subscribe to Starz. Hawkfest sounds awesome. Hope your side of the State will enjoy the sunny mild weather we are expecting this week.
ReplyDeleteI am such a weirdo - I subscribed to Starz just for the show! Lol. Hawkfest was really cool!
DeleteThanks! It seems like our week is shaping up to be beautiful! I think we all deserve this nice weather!
Apparently random thought of the day: I hauled my husband out to my high school homecoming football game Friday night. My school scored and there was this screech that came over the loudspeakers. "What was that?!?" My husband asked. I could barely answer for laughing. "I think that was supposed to be a hawk's cry, like we just pounced on the other team!" (Our mascot is the Blackhawks.) "That didn't sound like any hawk I've ever heard." I love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteWe're looking forward to Grimm as well, and Shield starts tomorrow! We're upset that it's coming on at the same time as Faceoff so we're going to have to choose.
I loved Thornyhold back in the day. I should give a re-read soon. Enjoy your week!
Lol!!!!! Did your team end up winning?
DeleteI can't believe we have to wait until the end of October for Grimm! :(
Thornyhold's a good one! :)
