Playing Catch Up - It's Thursday (?)! What are you reading?

My days are a bit of a blur and all run together now that Wyatt is home from the hospital. Without a good solid 8 hours of sleep to separate my days from each other, it's like living one big day. Lol. I had wanted to post this on time but didn't quite make it. Maybe next week!He is in a food coma right now and I am taking advantage of this moment.

I have also been dealing with the loss of my sweet, beloved Penny girl. We had to say our sad goodbyes to our beautiful, gentle girl and my heart is still broken over her. She was the best furry friend and companion a person could have, and I will miss her forever. I can't even think of her without crying, so I am going to talk about books and Wyatt again.

Read in the past three months:

Not much! It's the first time in my life I haven't really read anything and it feels weird. I am beginning to figure out some sort of balance though, I hope. If not, Wyatt is going to be hearing me read lots of books to him that I want to read, that are not necessarily picture books. We do have a few picture books that are read over and over right now though; these are a few that I am loving!

The Babylit books are very simple, but I love them for the illustrations! Jabberwocky and Huckleberry Finn are my favorites in that series.

Reading Now:

I don't have much time, or haven't found the balance yet, but when I do get a few chance moments to read, I pick up one of these. I am reading The Wind in the Willows to Wyatt, so that book is getting read the most often. I am enjoying revisiting it myself!

  1. Welcome back, Erin. Whatever time you can squeeze in for blogging and reading is fine by us :) I can imagine how much time a preemie takes, didn't have one myself but full-term babies were demanding enough for me! I love your little baby books, what a great idea to make a collection right from his birth.
I read Watership Down many many years ago and I remember enjoying it very much. That is a story that has people feeling very divided over; hope you enjoy it when you can!

    1. Thanks Rita! For a 5 lb 11 oz baby, he has me running! Lol. The hardest thing I would say is feeding him. He is very long, 18 3/4 inches, but doesn't gain weight as quickly as they want him too. We have a very regimented feeding schedule for him, and it causes me anxiety!! My mom has been comforting to me about that though - I was full term and very small at 4 lbs 6 oz, and I didn't gain weight very well either. And I was full term! So, I think as long as he is gaining and not losing, then we are winning.

This kid has so many books already! I can't help but buy them for him. Lol.

Watership Down is my all time favorite book. I read it every spring. This year, it is bittersweet - my Penny was gentle but also a hunting dog, and no rabbit was safe from her when in our yard. The day she passed away, our yard had a ton of rabbits in it. I like to imagine they were paying homage to her memory as well, acknowledging her passing.

  2. Guess I've missed a lot the last couple of months! Congratulations on Wyatt's birth - so glad he's home from the hospital. And I'm sorry to hear about your beloved Penny... our dogs are part of our families.

Had to chuckle when I saw that you're reading Watership Down. Yesterday I listed it as one of the 10 books I'll never read. It was, by far, the book people most thought I should reconsider. After seeing all that love out, I just might have to give it a try!

    1. Thanks JoAnn! Yes, we are so glad he is home. It was a rough 6 weeks in the NICU but now that he is home things are falling into a rhythm. And thank you about Penny - dogs really are part of our families.

I highly recommend Watership Down. Lol. It's my all time favorite book.

  3. I heard about you, your blog, and your new baby over on Rita's blog (View from My Home) and thought I'd stop in and say congratulations! The first year is tough in terms of sleep, no question... but it does get better over time. One thing I wish I had had when my daughter was a baby (she's now 20) is audiobooks. I could have listened to them while folding endless piles of clean baby clothes, or even while nursing. I love it that you're reading older-kid books to your baby already, though. It's so important to read to them, and why not have it be something you enjoy too, when they're still too little to understand the story.

I also want to express my sympathy on the loss of your beautiful dog. It's so hard to say goodbye to them. I hope that over time, the pain eases and your memories of her bring you more joy than sadness.

    1. Oh my gosh! I will have to stop by Rita's blog. How nice of her to mention me!

This sleep thing is no joke! Lol. I always thought it was exaggerated, but to my chagrin, it was not. Lol. I have already warned my brother and sister-in-law who are expecting a child in August. They love sleep more than I do and I think it is going to be a shock to them as well! I am glad to hear that it gets better over time.

Audiobooks! What a good idea!! I do have an audible account too, I just never use it. (my husband does a lot though). I will have to do that, thanks for the tip!!

Thank you. She was such a huge part of my life, that I really feel the void of her not being here. I know that this will get easier with time as well and I will look back on her life with more laughter and smiles than tears. :(

  4. Glad to hear you're home and that Wyatt is doing so well. And I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Losing a beloved pet is always hard.

The Wind in the Willows is a great book, and those kid lit books look so cute. Hope you find a good balance (and some sleep) soon!

    1. Thanks Julie. I am so glad Wyatt is home! He is such a job. And thank you about Penny - losing her was very difficult.

I am loving reading Wind in the Willows again! My husband has started to listen to it when I read it, so it has become a family thing. :)

  5. Great to hear Wyatt is home and doing well, he's beautiful. My youngest son who's just turned 21 was born 7 weeks early due to eclampsia and he spent a month in NICU, then when he came home I had to feed him every 2hrs until he finally reached 5lb ... that was tough. Hope your little man soon gains the weight he's supposed to. And sorry to hear about the loss of your furbaby Penny.
I've been reading a few more children's book with my 10 month old granddaughter ... must find a copy of I Wish You More. Have a good week and happy reading and more importantly, sleeping :)

    1. Thank you! Wyatt was actually born 7 weeks early due to eclampsia as well! He has a few other challenges but is doing well. Wow every two hours! Moms of preemies have to be pretty tough, I think - just as tough as our babies at least. :) I love hearing about other preemies and how well they are doing or about how old they are now. :)

Thank you about Penny - pets really steal your hearts.

I Wish You More is so cute! My mom bought it for Wyatt - I love it! Thanks Teddyree!

sorry to hear about your Penny, that's hard. she looks like she was a beautiful dog.

    Hope you have awesome week!

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
