It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we have read and what we are reading and see what everyone else is reading.

If you celebrate the 4th of July, I hope it was wonderful! I had a great time with my family, hanging out, eating, drinking sangria. I spent some time bonding with my new red haired second cousin Hannah. Please ignore my crazy hair. Lol. I also was able to spend time with two of my former college roommates and their children. It was so fun, especially since one of them lives in Austin and I rarely see her and her husband.

Read Last Week:

Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes: I love this movie, so when I saw this book in a free bin, I took it home with me. The book is very different from the movie, and honestly, I like the book better. As always.

Main Street by Sinclair Lewis: I am not finished with this yet, although I did read it last week. It started off so slowly for me, and I really couldn't stand one of the main characters, but she is starting to grow on me, and the book is picking up for me.

Reading This Week:

A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving: One of my favorite books of all time, I am excited to be reading it as part of the Estella Society Readalong.

    1. Yes they are. I am not sure why I was so surprised at the differences. Lol. But I was!

  2. I was so surprised by how different Under the Tuscan Sun was from the movie. I was left wondering if the screenwriters actually read the book! It was still a fun movie and I liked getting a new take on the scenario in the book. Enjoy your week!

    1. John Irving is one of the great loves of my life. Lol. I would put three of his books in my top 50 favorites list - The World According to Garp, A Prayer for Owen Meany, and The Hotel New Hampshire. Because you have to keep passing the open windows. :)

I can see why you are partial! Lol. And Hannah's older sister is a red head too. Lots of them in our family. :)

  7. I had read Under the Tuscan Sun before I saw the movie so I was disappointed by all the changes they made in the movie.

    1. Aw I can see how that would happen. I think because I did it backwards I was able to enjoy both.

    1. I placed it in front of the movie because of all the delicious descriptions of the food and the land. I am such a farmer at heart. Lol.

  11. The movie was fun, but it had little to do with the book, I thought. Enjoy John Irving, I like John Irving!

Have a great week & kind regards,

  13. The cover for Main Street is nice. I am curious what you think of it once you are done. Good luck with Irving. I do like his books but do not find them easy reads. Have a great week!

    1. I love to watch the movie in the winter, when I am freezing and Italy looks so warm and beautiful. I think the book was perfect for summer. :)

  15. John Irving wrote some interesting novels. I remember enjoying The World According to Garp, The Cider House Rules and The Water Method Man, as well as A Prayer for Owen Meany. That one was a little sad though. Good book.

I tried Under the Tuscan Sun and couldn't get into it - I think it's one of those times where I enjoyed the movie rather than the novel. :)

    Have a great week.

    1. His stuff is pretty different for sure! I never ever guessed what was going to happen in the book.

I really loved both, but the book, with all its food descriptions, won me over. :)
