The Sunday Post/It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Last week was a rough one for our family. My aunt, who is very special to me, recently completed a year of surgeries and chemo for pancreatic cancer. She came through strong and well. And then, last week, we had a setback. They found that an infection that may have started in her chemo port spread to her aortic valve. And then found that it was also in her spine. The heart valve was shooting off infection and plaque to all parts of her body for weeks, causing symptoms no one could find the cause of until finally, it affected her heart and also her brain. It has been a scary 6 weeks, and while this news was terrifying, and my poor aunt has been though so very much, at least now we know the cause and can treat it. Which they have started to, addressing the infection in the spine first and now, tomorrow, Monday morning, she will get a valve replacement. She is such a tough woman.

I did do some reading. The perfect distraction right?

I loved both of these!!! The Cruel Prince though, I couldn't stop reading and was so mad when it was over because I wanted more of this story and world. I can't believe I have to wait so long for the next installment! Lol.

Reading This Week:

I am definitely starting this book this week. I want to read some children's classics this summer, and I am starting with this one - which I never read! I will probably also pick up a Jenny Colgan or Karen White at the library, and I have some review books I am reading from here and there as well.

So I guess my reading week looks a bit scattered!

Watching:

The Ranch, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and we just started Safe. We are all over Netflix right now I guess. Lol.

What about you all? What is happening in your world?

    1. Thank you for your kind words! And yes, I feel we are going to be on the right path. She came through the surgery well! :)

  2. I'm sorry your aunt went through so much. I'm glad they found out what was going on and can treat it. I hope she is comfortable now. Now you've got me intriuged about The Cruel Prince. I loved the Anne of Green Gable books. Many knitters weren't fans of the recent mini series as it's different from the Canadian show. I haven't brought myself to watch the new one.

    1. She came through the surgery well! She is a tough cookie. Thank you for your thoughts!

I loved The Cruel Prince. My husband recommended it to me actually!

I don't think I want to watch the new one. My friend who loves AOGG, hated it. I didn't even watch the original. I feel like I know nothing about the story. I am looking forward to reading it!

  4. Wow she's been through the ringer. Prayers and best wishes her way, and for your family. She does sound tough and hopefully will beat this. My mom had a pancreatic cancer scare a few years ago and came through it, but it was a close thing- we were in doubt for a while. Best wishes for her!

The cruel Prince is one I want to read, I've heard so many good things. Plus the little bit I read was pretty impressive.

Netflix has so much stuff out right now!

The Cruel Prince was so good! I was like Nooooo when it ended. I want to know what happens next!

I loved them both - I needed some trips to fantastical worlds these past few weeks, I think. :)

  9. Oh your aunt has been through the wringer for sure and all of you to some degree along with her. I loved rereading Anne of Green Gables via audio last year. Hope you see a Jenny Colgan book at the library. ;)

    1. She really has, the poor woman. I really hope that now we can really just focus on healing!

I picked up Anne tonight from the library - the only Colgan on the shelf that I haven't read is the Christmas one..I am not sure I want to read that yet, I was saving it for Christmas time. Lol. I am going to have to do some requests! :)

  11. I'm halfway finished with Legendary! So far I'm enjoying it a lot more than Caraval. I wasn't very invested in Scarlett and found her choices to be aggravating. This time though... I'm fascinated by the Fates and the Decks of Destiny!

  12. I REALLY need to finally read The Cruel Prince. I'm content to procrastinate a bit though as it takes me closer to the release of the next instalment! Assuming I like it...
    Speedy healing to your aunt!

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
