It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Phew! The holidays are behind us, fun as they were, and I feel like the quiet of January can finally descend. Christmas was fun, New Years was great, and my brother is all moved into his new house too, so all the big stuff is kind of done around here for a while. We have spent today being lazy together, taking a drive, watching movies, reading, and hanging out playing with new toys. It was nice. Tomorrow we are going to do some cleaning, and Billy and I are even going out for a coffee date in the morning, just the two of us!

My new banned book socks!

I also want to remember not just the celebrities that have died this year that, which were all so incredibly sad, some that were icons of my youth - George Michael, Prince, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia..I am heartbroken), but three of my very favorite authors passed away this year as well. Richard Adams, who wrote Watership Down, my favorite book, as well as Pat Conroy and Harper Lee. It was a sad year, with the loss of so many beloved authors and entertainers.

“My heart has joined the Thousand, for my friend stopped running today.”
- Richard Adams

Read Last Week:

Winter Street by Elin Hilderbrand: This was my Christmas Eve book from Billy. It was a fun and fast read, great for the holiday season! I found myself pretty invested quickly in the lives of these characters.

Weregirl by C.D. Bell: I saw this book over on Greg at Book Haven's blog, and I knew I had to read it. That cover alone is pretty arresting! Add the fact that it is set in Michigan, and involves werewolves - all things that grab my attention and make me want to read the book. I liked this book! I am not sure if there is going to be a follow up but I hope there is. Review soon!

Reading This Week:

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden: Another cover that just stops you in your tracks. I can't remember exactly where I saw this book first, but I want to say Rita at View From My Books. It is going to be my first book of the year! (well, that isn't a picture book..)

Watching:

Veronica Mars, Longmire, Fresh Off the Boat, Alone, Top Chef

  2. Love that banned book socks photo especially with the little feet snuggled up next to his mama's. Good for you on getting out w/the husband. Me and mine have been having some QT lately now that our dames are getting spoiled up in the city by their Bella & Big Pop.

    1. Thank you! We had just read a book and were getting some snuggles. :) I am glad you are getting out as well! It's a resolution of mine for the hubs and I to have more dates, even just small ones like this one. :)

  3. I am so glad the holidays are over! Loved em and they were great but I'm ready for some quiet now. :) And I know about the celebrities- crazy how many people we lost last year. I like saying that- last year. Good riddance to 2016. :)

Weregirl! Yeah glad you liked it. And thanks for the mention! I wish we could get MORE books set in Michigan. Oh and I think I saw that there is another Weregirl book coming?

I need to watch Veronica Mars at some point.

    1. I agree - I too am glad to see the end of 2016! I am ready for the after holiday slowdown. Now, if only we had some snow!

I would love to read more books set in Michigan. :) And good! I am glad to hear there is another in the works!

  4. I was reading Winter Street on Christmas Eve, too - it was perfect! I was lucky to get the Winter Stroll ebook from my library afterwards, but then had to purchase book 3... the wait was too long. Hope you enjoy some relaxing time in January. Love the banned book socks!

    1. I should look online for the second one! I am not sure why I didn't think of that. Lol.

      Thanks!

  5. I have been a big fan of Carrie Fisher's books...and screenplays. Postcards from the Edge (the book and the movie) were favorites...and I just ordered The Princess Diarist. I love how Carrie showed up in movies that have been all-time favorites, like When Harry Met Sally.

I read Unsinkable, by Debbie Reynolds, last month.

They, and all the others lost, will be missed.

I read Winter Street, and had planned to read the other two in the series...maybe this month.

Enjoy your reading, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I love When Harry Met Sally! I just read how you can start watching it at a certain time to sync the ball drop in real life with the one in the movie- I was thinking of doing it next year! I always forget about Carrie Fisher as an author. I should try one of her books. I didn't even know that Debbie Reynolds had written one. I loved her in Singing in the Rain. How terribly sad, mother and daughter. :(

  6. I'll have to put Winter Street on my list for next December! I'm always on the lookout for a good holiday read!

  7. Those socks are pretty fabulous! I'm becoming known at the library where I work for my fun socks; I should look into some good literary ones.
There have been a lot of sad losses this past year. :( Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher have been on my TBR for awhile, but I might have to move them up.
I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts on The Bear and the Nightingale!
Ooh, Longmire is fantastic! I am a season behind though. Can I just say I love, love, love that you include what you're watching in this post? I'm probably going to steal that idea; shows are way too much fun to talk about. ^_^

    1. I love these! My friend got them for me for Christmas from outofprintclothing.com. I also have a pencil bag thing to match. :) I am a big sock fan too! Usually mine don't match half the time anymore, but that's ok. Lol.

I love Longmire!!! I am glad you like that I added that in! I figure I watch television too, and I like to talk about what I am watching, so why not? I am so sad that there is only one season of Longmire left. :( I am going to miss Walt and the gang.

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
