It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Happy Father's Day to any father's out there!

It was a great week, punctuated this weekend by Father's Day celebrations. We had a great time visiting my father Saturday, and then Sunday just our little family of three went to Belle Isle in Detroit. It was a 95 degree day, and everyone says that the island is cooler, and I can attest to the fact that it really is! I was surprised actually, at how much cooler it was.

Read Last Week:

I was supposed to be reading my book club book, but I don't think I can do it. I have never DNF'd a book club book before, but this one - I just can't do it. We are reading Homeboy by Seth Morgan, and try as I might, I can't get into it. Or force myself to read it.

The Love the Split the World by Emily Henry: I liked this book? Lol. I liked some of it, I guess? It kind of confused me in spots, with too much scifi/time travel talk. It was good but weird, is how I described it to Billy, and I am sticking with that description.

Reading This Week:

I am in a bit of a no man's land of books right now. I am waiting for a bunch to come in from the library and have nothing else at home I want to read. This is quite an issue!!! I might have to break down and buy a book in the interim. Which is ok too, but I try not too buy too many for myself, that was an addiction that got out of control. Lol. I might read this, if I my holds don't come in tomorrow..

Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica - but I am feeling ambivalent about it

Also, I might start working on my Stephen King rereads, beginning with Bag of Bones, my favorite! ( I might say that about all of his books)

Watching:

GoT, Alone, Community, Penny Dreadful - also watched movies from my big list. We watched National Lampoon's Vacation and Addams Family Values.

  1. Sounds like a very happy Father's Day weekend! I hate DNFing book club books, too, but there's no sense in subjecting yourself to a book you aren't enjoying. We usually have someone who bails on a book, and their perspective and reasons for quitting are always interesting. Isn't it strange how library books always come all at once? Hoe you get one very soon.

    1. Thanks JoAnn! I feel bad not finishing it, but I just can't do it this time. And you are right! It is either feast or famine with library book holds!

  2. I've heard good things about "Don't You Cry," including that it is a page-turner, so it might just be the right book to hold you over until your books come in.

  3. I've never been to Belle Isle but if it's on the water it probably is cooler! It's the same way here- by the lakeshore it's often a good 5 or even 10 degrees cooler (sometimes). Glad you guys had a good day! I had the same problem a few weeks ago- couldn't find anything to read and I had a book or two on order but they hadn't arrived yet. I hate wanting to read but not having the right book! lol

    1. It is definitely on the water - I think I am going to do a post of Belle Isle photos this week. It's come a long way from the 80s. Lol. It was so breezy and cool compared to the rest of the area.

It's the worst! I feel weird without a book to read.

  4. So many Stephen King novels, so little time! Where will you begin and end?

    1. I know right? I have decided to reread my old summer favorites, that I read growing up during those lazy summer days. Except It. I don't think I can read that again!

  5. No mans land is tough when it comes to reading content, especially if you're itching to delve in to something. I think the Stephen King rereads would be a lot of fun. Happy reading!

  7. Oh boy, sorry you weren't motivated at all with that book club selection. But hey, it happens right? Glad your hubb had a good Father's Day excursion.

  8. It is usually cooler closer to water. I live 5 min from the Lake and am amazed at how much cooler it can get. Hope you have a great week of reading.

  9. Your photo came out really well-- thanks for sharing it! I never heard of Belle Isle but if it's cooler during this heat wave, it's worth your visit. Glad you had fun.

I looked up the blurb for your book club choice and I wouldn't have been able to read that one either, hmm... I think you should reread Bag of Bones if you were going to reread a King book anyway. I loved Bag of Bones. His voice in it seems more mellow or something than most of the other books I've read by him. I also much enjoyed The Stand when I read it years ago.

  10. Your little one is getting bigger. I love to see the photos. I always have trouble deciding what to read next. Sometimes I'm just not feeling it with the books I have to read.

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
