Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post!
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
Snow! We are finally getting snow - it took you long enough this year Michigan! It just doesn't feel like winter to me without at least a little bit of the white powder on the ground. The weather reports predicted big snow but not sure we will get all that - I did stock up on winter/snow themed books to read to Wyatt this week. That is apparently what I stock up on when snow is in the forecast - books! Check back Friday to see what we read together this week.
School starts up again for me this week- eek! I enjoyed last semester off - time to face the music and go back. I am taking Photoshop and Intro to Archaeology, so it should be fun at least.
Read Last Week:
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie: My first book of the year, and also my first book by Agatha Christie! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Check out my review!
Reading This Week:
The Final Tap by Amanda Flower: From NetGalley. I was still in the mood for mystery and found this on NetGalley. I love seasonal stuff, and while this is more spring than depths of winter, it is close enough for me.
Of Moose and Men: Lost and Found in Alaska by Torry Martin and Doug Peterson: Another NetGalley book. I have this thing about Alaska right now. I can't stop watching stuff about it or reading about it!
Watching:
Bones - we just found this series and love it! We also watched the mini-series And Then There Were None, which was awesome. Also on the list are Shannara, a new MTV show that is really better than I imagined, and Top Chef, an old favorite of ours. Finally, we watched one of my favorite movies ever, The Big Year starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson. I love this movie and watch it at the beginning of the year every year.

How about you? What are you up?
I hate snow! It is actually snowing here at the moment and we are supposed to get our first accumulating snow this week (though thankfully less than originally predicted). I think I'd love snow if I could work from home and never have to drive in it! Unfortunately I have a somewhat treacherous commute on hilly and winding roads.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you loved And Then There Were None! That is my favorite of her books though I also love the Poirot mysteries. The TV series is excellent too (and on Netflix).
I really like The Big Year. The author of the book (played by Jack Black in the movie) is local and he came to our library for a program where he talked about his Big Year and experiences working on the film.
Have a great week and good luck with school! I kind of miss it except when I think about all the papers I had to write :)
If I lived somewhere twisty and treacherous to drive in snow, I would hate it too. :( I am mostly at SAHM right now but I don't like my family driving around in it - the problem here is other drivers! Michiganders seem to think they can handle any road condition and don't bother to slow down or adjust their driving to the weather.
DeleteI did love it! I am going to have to read more Christie. My dad is a Poirot fan, I will check that out too. (TV and that character)
Wow how awesome!!!! And seriously, how did I not know it was a book!! Well, I know what I am requesting at the library next. Lol.
Thanks Christina!
It is snowing here to in Kent Ohio. You are right took it long enough. lol It is winter 8 months out of the year here so... I am reading Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates
ReplyDeleteWinter was hiding! I just wanted some sunny, snowy days - nothing too crazy. This is pretty perfect! 2-3 inches and not too cold. Today though, is supposed to be nasty freezing. :( I am up near Detroit.
DeleteI love JCO! I went on a spree of her books one year and had to stop though - I can't read them back to back, they are too depressing! Lol. But I love her work.
We got snow too, although not as bad as they predicted. The grass is white but the driveway is clear, so I don't have to shovel. Yay. That may change though... we have a chance of snow all week.
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have caught the And Then There Were None miniseries. Sounds fun! And I thought Shannara wasn't bad. I'll keep watching.
Good luck with your classes! Both sound fun.
We got a few inches, it was nice! I was in the mood for a blizzard but I will take this. Lol. We have to take the baby out this morning anyway. :)
DeleteIt was really well done, with some big named actors. I put the Shannara series on hold the other day - there are already so many people ahead of me! I have never read Terry Brooks before so it should be interesting.
Of Moose and Men looks like a good one. We had our first snow Christmas Eve, and that was perfect..now I am over winter..LOL. Enjoy the snowfall. I think weekend snows are the best..you can just enjoy. I love Bones and Poirot mysteries too. BBC is my friend.
ReplyDeleteThat would be perfect! First snow on Christmas Eve is almost as perfect as it gets, really. I love snow! I don't need as much of it as usual this year but a little will be ok. :)
DeleteI love BBC. :) That British Baking Show was awesome!
Winter has definitely arrived, but has not slowed down the idiot drivers! Grrr, don't get me started. Glad you discovered and love Bones. It has been a favorite series for years. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI know - drivers are so crazy!! I don't know why people don't adjust to the weather at all here when driving.
DeleteI love Bones! It is so funny - I started watching it before my class and it seems so fitting now. Lol.
We're finally getting the snow, and it looks like tomorrow will be my kids first snow day (ugh, they just went back lol). Love the cover for Of Moose and Men-cracked me up lol :)
ReplyDeleteSnow day!!! Those were so awesome. I loved them when I worked at a school, maybe just as much as the students. Lol.
DeleteI agree - it's about time we had some snow here! This has been the strangest Michigan winter I remember. Of Moose and Men looks hilarious, and just the right read for a snowy day!
ReplyDeleteI am really excited to start it! Darn this school reading for getting in my way this week!
DeleteYour school classes sound like a lot of fun. My husband started his next online class this week. It's the beginning of taping lectures and reading his book again.
