It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, that is guaranteed to add to your reading list.

This week is going to be a repeat of what I was supposed to read last week. I am still waiting on one to come in from the library, although I think it got stuck in transit. I cancelled the hold and started a new one, just in case. So now hopefully, it will actually come in. Last week was super busy for me - I started subbing and I am not used to really working outside of the house. I came home on the days I worked and just crashed out, and in the case of one job where I had to get up at an ungodly hour, took a huge nap the next day too. I think I am getting used to it though now, and am getting smarter about which jobs I accept right now.

Read Last Week:

A Rough Guide to the Heart by Pam Houston: I love Pam Houston. She writes the most heartbreaking, beautiful essays. I had forgotten I had ordered this book when it surprised me by arriving last week. I immediately started reading, to realize, I can't read her while pregnant! Some of her essays make me sob on a regular day. Add hormones to the mix and it was a horror show. I will have to wait to finish this book, although I do love her work.

Reading this week:

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George: I started this last week, and have really enjoyed what I have read so far!

Hand to Mouth: Living in Bootstrap America by Linda Tirado: I am starting this book as well. I am sure I will take it slowly due to the material, but I read an essay from it that was really well done.

The One Way Bridge by Cathie Pelletier: I chose this based on the cover.

And of course, if that elusive book that will not be named finds its way to me, I will read that and not start a few of these others.

Watching:

My husband and I are toying with the idea of cutting our cable plan to basic and relying on Hulu Plus and Netflix. Has anyone else done that? I really wish you could pick and choose your channels, a la carte style. Anyway, we started watching Vikings, which I was reluctant to watch and now I love, and also 30 Rock, which I find hilarious!

  1. Pregnancy and parenthood make you cry about the most unexpected things, don't they? I remember trying to pick out a card for one of my parents and just bawling in the card aisle like a crazy woman.

I hope you love your books this week and start to find your footing with your new schedule!

    1. Oh my gosh yes! I am actually even more squeamish that normal as well, it's really strange! Lol.

      Thanks Lindsey!

  2. I'm pretty sure I would have picked up The One-Way Bridge too, based on the cover. How can you beat a moose mailbox? Looks like something you'd find in the U.P. I hope your library hold comes in. It's so hard to wait for the one book you really want to read! Have a great week!

    1. Lol I know right? So cute! I want a moose mailbox, but it wouldn't be as cute on my house. :) I still can't believe it is taking so long for that book. When I look at the holdings at least ten libraries have it on their shelves. It's confusing. Unfortunately it's not at one of the close libraries or I would just go fetch it myself. :)

  3. Both of my boys (in their 20's) cancelled cable and rely on Netflix, Amazon Streaming and Hulu Plus. The only thing they miss is the sports, then they come over or got to their sisters to watch. I'd choose The One Way Bridge based on the cover too. Have a great week.

    1. We took a mighty plunge and changed our cable plan to almost bare bones this week. :) So far I am really only missing Bravo, and that is because we were so close to the end of Top Chef!!! I love that show. :( Lol. I should have waited like two more weeks. Oh well. :)

  4. My husband wanted to do that too with the tv plan, we are still considering it.
I would choose that book, One-Way Bridge, because of the cute cover and the location. {See my post from yesterday, photos I took when I lived in Maine}. I've seen many a moose close-up before when I traveled to Baxter State Park by Moosehead Lake. The story sounds fun, so going on my wishlist.
Sorry to hear the hormones are getting to you. I read one book a long time ago by Pam Houston--Cowboys are my Weakness. So long ago, but I recognized the name, so I guess I enjoyed her.
Keep warm, safe and content as you nest.

    1. We did take a plunge on cable, and are now at the almost basic plan. Lol. It's not too bad! I just miss Bravo's Top Chef so far. And by the time everything else, like Walking Dead come back on, I will have a newborn and it won't matter as much. Lol.

I would love to live in Maine! We took a trip there when I was younger and I fell in love with it, even then. :) I think I might be scared to see a moose! Lol. We are not used to big animals that can attack here in the Detroit area. Lol.

I love Cowboys are my Weakness! It's probably my favorite book by Houston. :) I hope your week has been treating you well!

  5. Funny you should mention cable- we canceled ours a while back and now watch Netflix a LOT! We do miss certain channels though, so it hasn't always been easy. I agree about ala carte- why can't we do that???

The Little PAris Bookshop looks nice.

    1. I know right, a la carte would be awesome! I did read somewhere that a satellite provider is working on something similar- it could have been Dish and Slingtv? It would be nice to just pick and choose the channels you want. We did decide to downgrade, and so far I really only miss Bravo. We were right in the middle of Top Chef - I probably should have waited like two more weeks! Lol.

The Little Paris Bookshop is a lovely book ~ I am struggling with it a bit as it is kind of slow paced and I am not feeling slow paced right now. Maybe today, which should be a quieter day for me, will be a good day to read it. :)

  6. I'm not in the US, so have no idea about how your cable packages etc work, but to chime in - we don't actually own a TV at all and rely on Netflix and specific channel catch up players online. I've never once thought 'I wish I had a TV'. Honestly, I don't feel like I'm missing out at all. But of course it depends on how big a TV watcher you are.

    Enjoy all your upcoming reads!

    1. I think that is our ultimate goal, to eliminate the need for our television in general. We are not quite there yet ~ I have to admit since I have gotten pregnant our tv consumption has risen. Lol. I feel though that after the baby is here, we won't have much time to do anything at all! :)

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
