My Sunday/Monday Update!

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, that is guaranteed to add to your reading list.

I have been really enjoying working with students again! While I miss my old job sometimes, subbing is working out much better for the "right now"of my life. The husband and I haven't been out much lately, focusing mainly on getting stuff ready at the house and doing what needs to be done, which carries with it its own sense of accomplishment and actually, fun as well. I am going to drag him out next weekend though ~ the man just works too hard!

Thanks for all the comments regarding cable last week! We went ahead and cut the cord, and knocked our plan down to basic. So far it doesn't seem too bad, although I am desperately missing the end of Top Chef!!! I am pretty sure I can watch it online though, I just need to figure that out.

Read Last Week:

My reading habits have been a little erratic lately ~ a little bit of this, a little bit of that. I did manage to finish  two books though!

Baby Bliss by Dr. Harvey Karp: Apparently this guy also did The Happiest Baby on the Block~ I think this is the exact same thing, just in different packaging. It was pretty interesting! Review soon.

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall: I read this one night when I couldn't sleep~ I just had too much on my mind, go figure! Lol. This book was a super easy, lighthearted read. I enjoyed it although it was just a super simple story. It did have like 14 different points of view it was written from, and none of them was POV of the main character- which was a little something different! Review soon.

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George: This book is really good - but a little slow for me right now. It's not grabbing me and making me read it, but I don't mind going back to it here and there and reading a little at a time. I never read a book this way, so this is a new and different reading experience!

The One-Way Bridge by Cathie Pelletier: This book is cute, but I can't figure out where it is going yet. I will keep reading it, probably in the same way I am reading The Little Paris Bookshop.

Reading This Week:

Beneath the Bonfire by Nickolas Butler: From NetGalley. I am so excited to read this book! I loved Shotgun Lovesongs and this sounds really good as well!

I'm a Mom! Now What? by Susan Laurent: Yeah, these books will be trickling in. It has come to my attention I have no clue about babies. In fact, my husband is much more baby savvy, so I lucked out there! I know these books can't really prepare me totally, but until a few months ago I wasn't sure if a newborn sat in a high chair. Lol.

Watching:

I found House Hunters International on Netflix and can't stop watching! Does anyone else watch this? What I can't get over is how people want to move to a new culture yet want it to remain exactly like they are in America! It drives me crazy! Lol. We are also watching Parks and Recreation as well as assorted network television shows, mostly CW.

  1. You don't really need to worry about not knowing what to do with a baby. The hormones kick in and you just fall in love. Head-over-heels. I did come home from the hospital with my first baby and look at my husband and say--"Now what?" Ha! It takes a few months to get your stride, and your sleep, but it'll come.

    1. Lol! While I was in the baby section of the library, the title really appealed to me, it seemed realistic. Apparently, it is! Lol. Thanks for the words of encouragement. :)

  2. Hmm The Little Paris Bookshop - good that its good but not quite for you except in small chunks. Sometimes that's how it works to read a book, especially if it is a little slow or heavy.

    1. I think it is my mood lately. I have so much going on that I am almost ADD or something. This one can't completely capture my attention enough to force me to read much of it at a time. I wonder if I would have picked it up at a different time, if I would be devouring it. :)

  3. Sometimes it takes me awhile to get through a book even if I like it. I felt that way about The Girl You Left Behind which I finished this week. I liked it but it didn't always hold my attention or make me feel driven to read it quickly. I am curious about The Little Paris Book Shop but I wonder if I'd have a similar experience with it too. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for books that grab my attention and are "quick reads" which most of my book group books are not.

Good luck with the baby prep reading. I hope you find some really useful tips :)

I think I've seen a few episodes of House Hunters International or something similar. I'm pretty sure that a character in a book I just read today (The Same Sky by Amanda Eyre Ward) watched that show too and commented on it several times. Weird coincidence!

    1. I don't know exactly what is keeping me from reading The Little Paris Bookshop quicker. I really think it is my own present state of mind - I need something quick and easy that I don't have to pay much attention to. Lol. It has all the elements of an awesome read though!

      Thanks!

That is really weird!!! I am addicted to the show. I love some of the places they visit, and dream of living or at least visiting there! Some at the top of the list are Amsterdam, Prague, Paris, anywhere in Italy.

  4. Your comments about Little Paris Bookshop are interesting as I've been wondering if I will like it. (I'm not good if books are too slow!)

    1. I can deal with it if I am in the right mood. I just am not in the right place right now to be able to stick consistently to a slow book. I would say that it is definitely not a quick read.

    1. It was so cute! The library stole it off my Kindle though, so now I have to get it again ! Lol.

  6. I have had a few books where the going was slow, they just didn't grab me and to be read but when I did they were good. Hope it picks up. We used to watch House Hunters International although we have not seen it in a while... we would often say "what do THEY do to be affording that?" LOL. They all seem to work from home or whatever. :)

    Have a great week.

    1. That happens for me sometimes too - there is that magic clicking moment when the book seems to grab you all of a sudden.

We say that too! One of the episodes we recently watched was a one income family, with a monthly rental budget of $10,000! I was like say what!? Lol.

  7. Enjoy reading the baby books. :) When your sweet baby arrives, you'll instinctively know just what to do. <3

I have watched that show a couple of times, but most of the time the people on it drive me crazy lol.

    1. Aw thanks Brooke! I am so excited to meet him - I am feeling a little freaked out though! People tell you the horror stories, it is nice to hear from everyone here more encouraging replies. :)

They do! I can't stop though. I do go nuts when they have this huge unreasonable wish list. Lol.

  8. Sounds like you and your husband are both working hard. This is the link where I usually watch my stuff online, don't know whether that helps: http://watch-tv-series.to/! I really like the sound of 'Something A Little Different' and I'm also quite in the mood for something a bit light-hearted and fun! Thanks for sharing :) Have a great week!

I really did enjoy Something a Little Different - it was easy, simple, fun, lighthearted. Nothing too difficult. :)

  10. I can promise you every parent feels like they have no idea what they're doing - it's all instinct and guess work. I've been wondering if I'd like The Little Paris Bookshop, but if it's too slow I don't know if I'll be able to get through it. Will keep an eye out for your thoughts. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks B Marie. :) You hear all the horror stories, so I am so appreciative to hear such encouraging comments here. :) I am struggling with Paris Bookshop, although I am not sure I can blame the book! It might be my scattered mind set right now.

  11. I love the cover of Beneath the Bonfire. Such a pretty sky! I love watching House Hunters International, too. I like imagining suddenly moving somewhere else in the world, even though I know I'll never do it. I can always dream! :)

    1. I love that cover as well. I am such a bonfire fan, I love bonfire season. I think that is why this book struck a chord with me, from just the title. :)

Wouldn't that be amazing! I dream of such things too. :)

  12. It's normal to be "antsy" when pregnant and you should cater to your moody reading and boredom by getting a large stack of library books or used books from a thrift shop and then just reading a chapter or two and seeing what appeals, without wasting a lot of money.

Here's a true story for you about my reading habits changing during my first pregnancy when I was a young woman-- I read books most people would not associate with a nesting mom-to-be: Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell etc. Previous to that I was more of a gothic romance and historical fiction reader, and for some reason I needed edgy and moody titles. When I went into labor I was reading a library book, and I asked my mom to return it for me. She scolded me for reading "Mommy Dearest" about what an awful mother Joan Crawford was, written by her adopted daughter, Christina. When I gave birth to a daughter (remember I'm older than you-- there was no routine testing for the gender so it was a surprise) I impulsively changed the name I had chosen for a girl from Patricia to Christina in the delivery room, because the name was on my mind from reading the book. :)

    Have a great week!

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
