It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

This week spring cleaning hit us hard - Billy and I have made plans to revitalize our house, since we haven't changed it really since we moved in 16 years ago! This planning led to us starting to throw out/donate/sell some of the stuff we no longer need, that we have accumulated over time. It's been fun! We haven't done anything too big, and don't plan on going nuts - we just want to make a few little changes here and there to breathe new life into our home. We have a small budget but lots of ideas! A fresh coat of paint, some new artwork, new curtains, a little ingenuity and creativity - small things can make a big impact.

Also, our little guy has had a huge month! Turned 1, got 3 new teeth, grew two inches in length, and drum roll.....gained a pound!!! Woohoo! Little man is working so hard and eating like a champ. We also got a new physical therapist for him - he has motor delays stemming from his birth, and we love this new PT. She is perfect for working with our guy - she is patient, gentle, and kind.

Read Last Week:

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs: I swear, this series gets better and better! I loved this book!

Reading This Week:

Death of a Nurse by M.C. Beaton: I love this series. It is such a cozy mystery series to snuggle up with, and now with the return of winter, boo, I needed a snuggly book.

The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau: Received from Blogging for books. I think this is going to be the book that Billy and I have our mini book club with this month! He will listen while I read. I am excited to see where our discussion will take us!

Posted Last Week:

Watching:

The Walking Dead - what what what was that episode last week!! I can't even fathom...Daryl is my favorite!

Outsiders - this show is nuts!! It's like Mad Max meets a crazy tribe of Mountain men

and the usual suspects - iZombie, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Supernatural

We also watched the Nova episode Secrets of Stonehenge. I had to watch it for my archaeology class, and it was extremely interesting! I highly recommend it- it is available on Amazon Prime.

  1. That is great news about the little guy! Glad he's gaining... and your house changes sound fun too. Gotta change it up once in a while. :) Fire Touched looks good, I just got moon Called so I'll be starting that series soon (and I'm hoping i'll like it since I'm trying a few different urban fantasies).

The Walking Dead- don't know what to say. I didn't see tonights (will watch tomorrow) but judging from Twitter there's mixed feelings, to say the least. And yeah last week with the Daryl getting shot - I was like really? I don't know about some of their decisions lately. :) Oh and I do like Nova too- they have the coolest stuff sometimes.

    1. Thanks!! It's such a battle some days, but he is doing great!

I am a huge fan of urban fantasy - it is probably my favorite genre. :) I hope you like it too!

To be honest that was my first experience watching a Nova show; I think we are going to do try to watch more of them. It was pretty cool!

  2. Hurray for spring cleaning and freshening things up... little things can make such a huge difference! Sounds like the little guy is making big strides, too - that's great! I like M.C.Beaton's Agatha Raisin series, but have never tried Hamish Macbeth. Also learned last week that she wrote an Edwardian Murder series and added the first one, Snobbery with Violence, to my wish list. Have a great week.

    1. Yes, it is so nice to box stuff up and get rid of it! And it is fun to make small changes around the house too.

Wyatt is doing great - he is getting so long! Lol. It's funny because neither my husband nor I are very tall, and he is kind of a tall baby/toddler.

I am the opposite, I have never read Agatha Raisin! The Edwardian series sounds really good too, I will have to check it out!

  3. Glad to hear your son is doing so well! I am disappointed about the winter weather this week and I hope it warms up soon. Cozy mysteries are perfect reading for this kind of weather.

Good luck with all your house plans. I need to really downsize my apartment. I have way too much stuff for the space I have and it will make it easier for moving in the future.

    1. This weather is crazy! Right now as I type, it is thunder-sleeting. Spring is very confused this year.

It was a hard start for me, but now that I started, every box and bag I fill gets easier and easier. We have certainly accumulated the stuff in our time in this house!

    1. I really hope so. She seems to "get him" and that is so important. He is already showing some progress and it is has only been three visits so far!

  5. Glad Wyatt is doing better, eating, gaining, and working with a great PT! He is just growing up so quickly! Good luck with his progress.

Glad you liked the new Patricia Briggs. I'm two books behind you in this series.

I didn't know you were taking archaeology! Is that a required class, or are you going for that in school? Still staying in the library field? I love the subject, minored in anthropology in college first time around and had to take an archaeology class back then. I also have an interest in Henges, such as Stonehenge. Fascinating!

    1. Thanks Rita! He is such a hard little worker and fighter, and is the happiest little guy too.

I really enjoy that series - I think it gets better and better!

I love my archaeology class ~ I didn't really need it, but I did need another class so I could receive financial aid. So I decided to pick one that sounded fun. It is a lot of work, but I love it. In another lifetime I would like to be an archaeologist, I think. The Stonehenge chapter was really interesting! That Nova program had some cool stuff in it, if you have Amazon Prime. I am not sure it is on Netflix, but my professor did say its available on YouTube.

  7. *waves pom poms* Hoo-rah on Wyatt's accomplishments! What great news to hear. I've added that cozy series to my TBR. Did you read on Kathryn's blog that posted a link to another post that some cozy mystery series have been abruptly stopped b/c the author's contract wasn't renewed or maybe terminated? The merge of Penguin and Random said there was an overpurchase in the cozy genre which is why the former happened. What a bummer for fans of certain series. I may be reading more cozies this year. And the dreaming of the remodeling sounds great. I still need to paint here; gonna wait for the kids to be out of school. Changing wall color is fun. It was my dream to have color in the house. The living room/dining room areas were inspired by these Hawaiian prints my parents gifted us one Christmas. I wanted the husband to have his "red" wall; it's more a cayenne pepper.

    1. Thanks Stefanie! It was a great month for him. :)

I will have to check that out! I still have an open tab to Kathryn's post because I have been trying to read it for days now. I was all of a sudden crazy busy. That is a real shame - I am such a fan of cozy mysteries; I wonder which ones were stopped. That is a big time bummer. :(

I am pretty excited. I looked around one day and was like, wow we have had this same art, paint, etc for years and years now - time for a change! We are kind of doing the opposite with paint color - our house is many colors right now, and we are thinking about adding a few rooms painted white. Eeek! White paint scares me more than color. But I guess if I hate it, it is easy to paint again. :) My husband had a whole red room (not like in those books that will not be named!) for a while - he loved it! It was a bit much for me - one wall probably would have been A LOT better. Lol.

  8. The spring cleaning/sprucing makes such a difference, doesn't it? We finally replaced the ratty rug in our living room that has lived through a few different places. It feel like a whole new room!

I love the idea of the mini-book club. How often do you read together??

    1. It really does! I am having a good time planning and purchasing and getting rid of stuff. :) Isn't it funny how much of a difference just one item can make?

We used to read together all the time when we first started dating a hundred years ago - then it kind of ended, and we just started again with The Oregon Trail by Rinker Buck. It was so fun that we are going to try it again. We just need to find the right book. I am hoping that The Happiness of Pursuit works out. :) Our little book club is fun. :)

I love hearing from people, don't be shy! I would love to hear what you think! I always reply back, although it takes me a bit longer these days due to the little guy.
