It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
It is sooo cold, it hurts outside! And I know we don't even have the worst of it! It is supposed to warm up this week though, to 30 degrees so we are looking forward to the heat wave. :)
This cold has kept us indoors. We go where we need to, and that is all, for the most part. We did get a little cabin fever the other day, and ventured out for some coffee and pastries. It was nice to get out for a little while. Today, Billy and I went out without the boy for a bit, just to Panera where we nerded out with our planners. We talked about some of our goals for the year, for the family, for our home, for ourselves. I almost don't recommend that, it was slightly overwhelming - perhaps we are being too ambitious! Lol. We are pretty easy going and flexible though, so I know if we don't get to all these ideas we won't trip out, but at least we have an inkling of what we are hoping to do.
Read Last Week:
Both of these books were excellent! The River at Night made me think of Deliverance. So crazy, and a really creepy read. But The Girl in the Tower was amazing. I absolutely loved it. I didn't want it to end. The Bear and the Nightingale was my first book of the year in 2017 - it seemed fitting to begin this year with its sequel. I highly recommend reading them both - and since this is listed as the Winterknight Trilogy, apparently a third book will be on its way soon. Review very soon- hopefully this week!
Reading This Week:
I am really looking forward to reading this third in the series!
Watching:
We finished up Longmire, which was bittersweet. I loved that dang show so much!! I can't believe it is all over. We are also watching The Ranch, and Home Town on HGTV. Not sure what is next up for us, as we are almost finished with both each of them. We did start watching Top Chef again, and we do have Riverdale and The Gifted (which my husband likes more than I do), but as for Netflix shows to binge watch, I am not sure what is up next for us. Maybe Godless, or our Outlander season 3 that we haven't watched yet.
How about you guys? How is the new year treating you?
Ooh you read The River at Night! I think I'm reading that one next- glad to hear it was good! Amd I hear you about the cold- we haven't been venturing forth much either, although Panera is always a nice place to warm up. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a new convert to Longmire and have been binging it- love that show!
The River was pretty darn good! I think the characters could have been developed more but overall it was a good story. :) This week brings a warm up - yay!
DeleteAnd I'm so glad you are enjoying Longmire!! The characters and story are so well done.
I really want to read "The River at Night" even though I've never seen Deliverance? If that's a movie, or if it's a book, I haven't read it either. Lol!
ReplyDeleteLol yeah it was an old reference, sorry. It was a movie made in maybe the 70s? About 4 male friends who go white water canoeing and it does not end well for them! You don't need to have seen it to read The River at Night, I just was reminded of it. :)
DeleteLooks like some great book choices here. We've been inside since Wed. night. Cant wait for the thaw. Good luck w/ your plans this year. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThis cold is so crazy! I think I am going to try to get my son outside for a bit today, just for some fresh air. It's a balmy, tropical 35 out. :) Thanks, you too!
DeleteThe Girl in the Tower does look good. Thanks for sharing...and enjoy! Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
ReplyDeleteI loved it so much!!
DeleteI don't usually set goals for the year. I'm living more "seat of my pants" and enjoying the flexibility. I just bought a copy of The Bear and the Nightingale and look forward to reading a book so many have found amazing. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt's a new thing for us! I call it our state of the household meeting. Lol. I think it's the addition of our son, that prompted us to have sort of goals for the year. We have been grasshoppers most of our lives, we are trying to be ants now. :) Although, its not really in our nature! We give it a go though. :)
DeleteI loved Bear and the Nightingale, and then Girl in the Tower even more! I hope you do as well. :)
So many interesting titles around. Enjoy them all. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding the River at Night to my wishlist. The kids are back in school but my husband has one more week off. Come see what I'm reading
ReplyDeleteThat is nice, the two of you have some time to hang out. :) I read The River at Night as part of my online book club, Hike Like a Woman Book Club. :)
DeleteI have seen The River At Night in a few places! I am starting to think someone wants me to add that to my list! Happy Reading! :)
ReplyDeleteLol! I just thought to add that I read it for my online book club, Hike Like a Woman Book Club on Facebook, if anyone is interested in joining the discussion. :)
DeleteDespite the cold, it sounds like you've had a great start to the new year - I hope that continues, along with the arrival of some warmer temps.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover of The River at Night.
A wonderful week to you - reading & otherwise!
We have, honestly. It's been cold but we have had good times. :) And thanks!
DeleteI just learned through Goodreads there is an in-between book after The Court of Wings and Ruin. I have to read it as it's a bridge between what happens next - a spin off.
